just about ready to "throw in the towel"

I don't post much anymore (and I didn't read the responses to this post) because I don't feel like I fit in because I never made it to normal BMI (I currently sit at ~28). That being said, I have accepted that fact and I'm quite happy with me. I weigh 150ish pounds and have never ever been happier in my entire life. Does it matter that I should weigh 130 or 120 or 110 according to some stupid chart? Matter to WHO?

I eat healthy most of the time, do Bikram yoga 5-6 days a week, drink all of my water and then some, eat my protein and have a life. and that's the most important, I enjoy LIFE. When I was heavy, I didn't have a life. I wished for that life. and now that I have it, screw it if I'm going to focus on the fact that I'm not 120lbs.

It's quite possible that you will never see 125. or you'll see it for a hot minute. It's not something to risk throwing in the towel over. Would you have never had the surgery if someone told you that you were only going to get to 138? Absolutely not.

CBT is a wonderful tool. It really helps you to restructure your thoughts and actions. It's hard as hell, but I highly highly recommend it.

Hi Michelle.  First I want to say that I checked out your profile and wow!  You've done an amazing job!

I do agree with you in regards to CBT.  I've been trying to get through a book Brandilynn suggests which deals with cognitive therapy.  Is there a certain book or program you suggest?

I did CBT for depression and social anxiety issues a few years ago. and in concert with a therapist. I had a book and a workbook. and I did the exercises and homework and then it was the basis for therapy that week. Honestly, I think that is the best way as CBT is REALLY hard. You have to be willing to work at it, address a lot of serious issues and learn to rethink a lot of stuff. and having those skills really made the whole WLS process a lot easier to deal with.

This is the workbook that I used. It may work for more than just mood issues because in the end, the heart of CBT is analyzing how you react to thoughts and feelings...and how to change that.

Hang in there and remember why you had the surgery in the first place. :) I'm guessing it wasn't to weigh 115. or 125. You probably wanted a long, healthy life for you and your kids and husband. and you have accomplished just that. and when things start to spiral out of control, go back there. :)

You've already gotten great responses....

And I agree with taking a small break from all that exercise & upping your calories...

I am an exercise fiend and have been through this whole process...However, a funny trend I noticed is that whenever I went a week on vacation, I lost a good amount of weight, the only change on vacation is no formal exercise and I ate whatever I wanted including desserts. 

Also I have been reading the plastic surgery forum at realself.com and most of the surgeons say that at some point, major weight loss patient**** a plateau and some of the fat is attached to the excess lose skin from being obese, and you really can't get it off on your own. So don't beat yourself up over something that may be completely out of your control....many times surgeons remove 5-10 lbs when doing the plastics that are typically needed post WLS....

You have done a terrific job and you should be proud of yourself! Embrace it! and keep up the great work!     :)
