Surgversary

Hard to believe, but today is my 2 year surgversary.  It has been a wild and crazy ride and the most fun I've had in years!

I've learned a lot over the past 2 years.  One thing is for sure.  I love, love, love my "Sleevie Wonder".

I'm at maintenance now, and find it relatively easy so far to maintain.  I can eat "forbidden" foods and still maintain my weight, because I eat "right" 90% of the time.  And when I eat cookies, candy, etc. my portions are limited.  Unfortunately, I have found that those types of foods are  "slider" foods, so I can eat more of them than I would like.  So I have to depend on my brain and will power to limit my portions.

That said, I WANT to eat like a normal person does.  Normal people don't hide food and don't eat like gluttons.  It is sometimes hard to not allow myself to go back to old habits.  My brain just hasn't adjusted to the new way to eat, even though Sleevie still has plenty of restriction.

I started this journey at the age of 58, weighing in at 306.  At 5 ft 2 in, I was as wide as I am tall. lol  I am now fluctuating between 141 and 146.  Wearing mostly 10s but I do have a pair of jeans in an 8.  Unbelievable!

Today I had to renew my disaster preparedness identification card.  My picture on the expired one was at my pre-WLS weight.  I'm not sure anyone would let me in if I tried to respond to a disaster, because they wouldn't think it was me.  That makes me feel great!

So to all you newbies, keep on keepin' on.  It's a wild ride.  It sometimes isn't easy.  But believe me, it's worth it!

Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Great Job!!!!!!  Happy Surgiversary !!!  I'm so glad you are happy and doing well!!!  Did you have your two year followup with Dr. Hoehn?  I should be going for my blood work next month.

Hi Vera!  I actually switched to the Des Moines Bariatric group after I saw Dr. Hoehn after my 1 year anniversary.  Des Moines is much more convenient and I go to their support group meetings, because they are on Saturday.  I will see Dr. LaMasters next month for my 2 year follow up.  I already had my blood work done locally and my labs were all perfect.

I do miss the people at Dr. Hoehn's office.  They are all so nice, but KC isn't convenient for me.  Our daughter lives in Des Moines, so I can go up there and get a "grandchild" fix at the same time. LOL

Wanda, I couldn't agree more about the slider foods.  That's where our mental/emotional fortitude comes into play.  They taste so darn good and go down so easily.  My jeans are my reminder about how bad I'd feel if I went back to that "eating place".  It's just so not worth it.

Bravo  on the incredible job you've done getting to your goal and learning what it takes for you to stay there.  Not too many people in this world get from 306 to the 140's and stay there. You're a miracle.

I look forward to sharing years 3, 4, 5...... With you!

Hey Wanda
Can it really be that you are two years old today? You are quite articulate for someone of such tender years. I am 2 and 3 months and hubby is a mere 3 month old.

you have done a great job and isn't it comforting to know that the restriction is there forever!!!!!

So go out and get some more cool jeans (preferably hip hugger bell bottoms) and light some incense!!!

LOL Diane.  I still have  a ceramic budah for that incense.  I was so naive, I didn't know why people burned incense.  I bought it as a teenager because I thought it was cool.....her, groovy.    I know now, cuz after all, I'm 2!

Congratulations on a successful 2 years. You have really rocked your sleeve and have done very well. I know what you mean about sliders. Even though I can eat just about anything, I have to be careful, because eating certain foods can send me down a slippery slope. It is so not worth going down that slope, because I never want to be that person, I used to be. Having one's health back is priceless.

Wishing you continuation of your success in the years to come.
