I passed out twice today and went to the ER

Realized that I didn't answer your EKG questionon. My EKG's always looks wacky. My cardiologist made a comment that if he was to look at my EKG it looks like you just suffered a heart attack. He told me an ekg by itself doesn't give you a complete picture. I would also need to have an echo and stress test. I plan on giving him a call tomorrow as well.

A-Fib can also cause dizziness, fainting, and passing out. I was diagnosed with it, and have had some episodes of almost passing out. The Echo and Stress tests would give more information.

Good Luck,

Gail

Sorry to hear about your scary story!  That has to be distrubing.  I hope you're able to track down whether this was food related or not.

I had a visit with my primary as well as spoke with the doctor who assisted during my sleeve procedure.

Both came to the same conclusion Vasovagal Response http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasovagal_response

I spoke to my primary first (he is a Gastroenterologist) I explained all that happened. He didn't think it was a hypoglycemic reaction due to the fact that I had well balanced meals and the blood test the paramedics read was close to normal. He said it could have been a compound of issues: Dehydration compounded by alcohol, Standing too long in the club, the stressful situation with my friend.

He took my vitals and said I wasn't in danger of kicking the bucket but suggested that I have a echo and stress test to rule out circulatory problems.

I spoke with my bariatric doctor shortly after wards. I didn't tell him about the conversation with my primary when we first started talking. He said this had nothing to do with the sleeve and that it sounds more like a VasoVagal issue. He told me to follow up with my primary. That's when I told him what my primary said. He agreed with my primary diagnosis and said the root cause may be difficult to determine. He also suggested seeing a cardiologist.

I have a call into my cardiologist but he is booked all week. Waiting for a call back to see if they can squeeze me in tomorrow.

I'm glad your OK Mike.  If I ever have those feelings, I'll recognize them thanks to your description.

Did they tell you what you should do next time you start feeling that way?  So that you don't actually black out?

I wonder if laying down and elevated the feet would help?

Edited to add- I was just reading that link you posted and it actually says to lie down and raise legs when you start feeling like you are going to have an episode.  It also talked about compression stockings.  I wonder if compression stockings would help.  You could wear when when you know you are going to be on your feet for extended periods of time.
