What I learned at support group today
Here's what I learned at support group today:
Its good to go to support group. Its a bi-monthly pep talk that keeps you motivated.
You are not alone. Others have the same issues you do. And others have solutions you haven't thought of.
Learning to eat slower is harder than learning to stop snacking or grazing or cut quantities (LOL sleeve forces that). Using a timer is a perfectly good way to slow down.
Artificial sweeteners are not your friend. They can stimulate desire for sweets or even have some impact on blood sugar. Aspartame is the worst. The kind thats in sweet n' low is better.
Gotta keep working on some kind of exercise to avoid bone loss.
WLS patients often feel "off balance" for a year or two since they are not used to moving around with so much less weight (I seriously thought something might be wrong with me since I felt like this)
No one likes their protein drinks but fluids really do matter even in cool damp winter.
I have made some great friends by going through this process.
Its normal after a couple of years to have some increased eating capacity and using this to eat more veggies is a good and normal thing to do. This increased capacity will not continue to expand (phew).

Actually sucrolose is the worst. It's just a sugar molecule that's been modified so your body thinks it's sugar and you get the same insulin response as with sugar. This has been documeted.
Definitely the artificial artificial sweeteners are better than the "natural" artificial sweeteners.
Except maybe stevia since it's a herb and not a modified sugar molecule. But it hasn't been studied that much so who knows.
