Has anyone else "grown" after surgery?
When I was younger (late teens to 30's) I was always 5'9" tall. I switched PCPs about 5 years ago and when they measured me they go 5'8". My surgeon got the same a year ago.
Today my PCP who hadn't seen me since a month after surgery said, "Boy, you're standing a lot taller since you lost the weight." Which is true, I had terrible posture and have been doing a lot of work on my core.
Anyway, they measured me and I was over 5'9" again!! I'm guessing I always was but I wasn't really carrying myself up straight, but who knows.
Anyone else measured taller after surgery?
Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22
175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012
What prompted them to measure was my doc's observation that I was standing a lot taller than I used to. I have done a LOT of core work and worked hard on my posture since surgery.

Probably your posture, you're right. Most people strink. Gravity naturally compresses the spine as you get older. It's worse for women with bone issues. Since you have good bone density, that's probably helped you maintain (and improve) your stature. That's one of the reasons I run, though, is the weight bearing exercise combined with calcium & vitamin D intake help maintain bone mass.
My mom has lost 2 1/2 inches in height, and she's never been overweight. She does have bone density issues, and she's 77.
I haven't grown since then though.
