Exercise NSV

So I have been slightly down on myself due to the few pounds I managed to acquire over the holidays. Apparently, it is necessary for ALL of the cookies and candy in our house to be eaten before I personally will stop eating them...

Experience tells me that it will take a lot longer to LOSE these pounds than it did to gain them, and that will be my project for January / February.

HOWEVER... yesterday at my semi-private personal training session I had a major NSV.

As it is the beginning of the new year, there are a lot of folks starting programs, and this is true with my trainer. Last night, of 5 of us working out, 4 were newbies. 3 of them were young, slim, and looked like they were in great shape. In fact, since this is not my normal night to work out, I assumed that they were long-time clients of my trainer ...until the workout began.

I am about 15- 20 years older, have lots of loose skin, especially tummy, bum and thighs, along with the subcutaneous fat that supports it, and in general just LOOK less fit.

I kicked butt! - lifting more weight, not getting as winded during the cardio, able to do more challenging ab exercises, sweating less, needing fewer breaks etc. I felt like superwoman! It felt amazing to realize that just because I will never look like a fitness model, does not mean that I can not be very fit.

For me, exercise did not make me lose weight so much as losing weight allowed me to exercise,

Woot!

Wow!!  Good for you.  I'm sure all those young, skinny things thought they would be running circles around you.  Looks like you showed them up.

I want to be you when I grow up.  I still can't imagine ever making that statement, "For me, exercise did not make me lose weight so much as losing weight allowed me to exercise".  I want to feel that way some day.
