For the first year it was every three months. After the first year it was twice a year. In march it will make two years out for me and I'm sure it will be annually at that point.

since I had my surgery out of town (I had my surgery in Detroit and I live in Tennessee) I only went to one post op appointment.
I had to stay in detroit for one week, and have a follow up visit at that time. Have not needed to go since. I have done all my follow up by email, and had my one year labs done with my pcp. It has been very, very, very nice. Who likes going to the
doctors office?..... Not me, even though he is very nice, and his staff are the best. The preop training class is pretty thorough, and prepares you for most everything that could happen.

Wishing you all the best, Carol

April will be two years for me.  My dr. recommends once a year after the one year mark to at least get your blood work done.

Wow. I can't believe some people go for two years when there are no complications.

Considering my appointment was 3 minutes long and he didn't touch me or ask any questions, I'm done.  So I just did the 3 weeks and the 6 months.  My pcp does the labwork.

I find it helpful to talk with my bariatric doctor. There are things that I discussed with him in my last visit that i would have never thought of asking during my six month appointment. ie things about long term maintenance. I find having regular access to him to be invaluable.

The blood work that that he requests is much more comprehensive than what my PCP requests. He'll also discuss things that relates specifically to the life and living with the sleeve. I also still have access to the nuts and PA's in his office that I can make an appointment at anytime if I have questions.

I know that many people have been successful with traveling to a surgeon. But I was concerned that if a complication did arise that I would have access to my bariatric doctor as well as my PCP. My PCP and bariatric doctor know each other and have the ability to consult with each other if an issue should arise.

My surgeons requirements are every 3 months until you hit goal. Then after that I'm sure its biannually and annually as you get further out.

I very much enjoy going to see my bariatric dr. It keeps me in check. I take full advantage of all the support groups, bariatric life coaching and all the free classes that he does. It was one of the biggest readons that I picked him, was all the post-op support. He doesn't give you a tool and expect you to know what to do 100% of the time. You should never feel like you can't ask your dr. questions about what you are doing and how you are doing it. This is why he is really big on post-op care and support. I think it's very much part of my success.
