I would aim for 10 lbs. below where you really want to be and when you are about 5 lbs. from that final goal, I would add about 200 calories through nuts, avocados, full fat dairy or oil back into your diet.  I would keep it there and see what happens for at least three weeks, maybe even a full month.  If you are still losing, I would increase this but adding another 100 calories and stay there for two weeks or so.  Keep doing this until your weight is stable for a full month.  Voila!  Your new calories range is discovered.

Thanks, Elina! I'll start now to brainstorm ideas. I hope to be moving into maintenance within a few months, and I'm a plan ahead type so this helps me start figuring this out.

That sounds like a plan that will really help me figure things out.

Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

Congrats on being so close to goal. i inadvertently got below goal but am glad i did. you may want to go a little below to have a little room since its not unusual to put back a couple of pounds in years 2 or 3. when you are ready to stop losing try to add 100 calories a day and do that each wee****il you level out. you are right that healthy fats are the best such as nuts, avocado and good cheese. small size but calorie dense. you are smart to avoid sugar and carbs. look what you went through to get away from that stuff. I was an addict to sugar and really have to just stay away from it. You can also drink 1% or 2% milk instead of skim which is what my dietician told me to do.

i had a resting metabolic rate test to help figure out an approach to maintenance calories. you might look into that.   Diane

Thanks!

I still do protein shakes so using even skim milk instead of water on them would add some calories. I could up it again using 1% or 2% later if I needed to. Thanks for that suggestion.

I really want to avoid going down the simple carb road. It just feels like it would be a slippery slope! Maybe I'm being unrealistic, but I had terrible self-control before and while the sleeve helps I'm still not sure I trust myself with junk.
