I'm so sorry Cindy. I totally am feeling what you have been going through. We just lost our dear, sweet Nigel on the 15th. He was 14.5 years old and had been a member of our family since he was 1.5 years.
I am glad we are away for the holidays because the house is very empty without him.
Thinking of you and your family.

I am in exactly the same emotional place you are. We lost our black pug, Louie, 1 month ago. He was the first dog we ever had that died at home. He was so special, just like your Tiki, and I loved him more than any other doggie I have ever owned. I felt terrible guilt that I did not terminate things--he suffered for 4 long days, but both me and the vet kept thinking he would respond to antibiotics, as he could find nothing on exam or x-ray. But in the end, the melanoma he had removed 4 months prior, must have invaded his throat and just eventually shut off his airway. It is really hard in the end if you have any guilt about what you could have, should have, might have, done differently. And the favorite ones are the worse, as they are the ones that we hang onto for perhaps too long a period of time. The only thing that has brought me out of my guilt is to turn all my love and attention to the 4 pugs we have left, (one, especially, went into a month-long depression over losing his best pal)---so my mission was to get them all out every day and walk them. Walks definitely help and from there on out, it is mostly tincture of time. Just think how blessed Tiki was to have you, and no one else, as his mom. He knew you thought he was the greatest dog in all the world, and that is really all that ever counts.
I just read your post here and wanted to tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your beloved pet. I lost a pet precious to me this past summer and it was very difficult.
Comfort yourself in knowing you gave Tiki a wondeful life. I bet Tiki felt very lucky to have found a family who was so loving and took such good care of him and I know he brought such happiness into your life during the years you spent together.
Take care,
Lindsey
