Veterans that started over 350

Somone suggested that I check out this board, so here I know this is a maintenance board so I promise not to impose too much unless I need sound advice from you veterans

I started out at 382 at my first surgeon's visit.
I would really like to see some stats and hear from those of you who started out in the high 300's or more. I just need re-assurance that this has been done. I will not bug you, just want to see your success stats. You have no idea how much this will mean to me, as I was doubting my choice just the other day but my surger is done and I must truck on.
Actually seeing and knowing it has been done will reassure me that I knew what I was doing.
Also- if you can and want to, tell me how oftenyou exercised and what you did. I am already exercising but am looking to do more.
You can send me a private message as well if you do not want to respond on here.

Thanks again---I hope to be able to motivate someone in the near future as I hope you will all motivate me. So think of sharing your success story with as 'Paying it Forward'

Happy Holidays!!! and Thanks in Advance!

Hi there,

You came to the right place to hear success stories!  I did not start off in the 300's (but I would have ended up there the way I was going if I didnt' get my surgery when I did) so I can't answer your questions but...I have seen several people on this board do VERY well with much success at losing alot of weight.   think you made the right decision by getting the VSG.  I am a RN and I have seen so many people have issues years later after having the big bypass...this procedure just makes the most sense and doesn't mess up all of your insides..  You will do great if you work your tool...it is work....but you will feel better than you ever have. Really take advantage of the first year to lose the weight...follow the rules that were given to you.  If you work your tool, it will work for you!   KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE!!...A NEW AND HEALTHY YOU!

I am sure you will hear back from some very successful vets.  Good luck to you!

YOu are welcome in this group no matter what your status. I did not start in the 300's but my husband was sleeved  weeks ago and his peak weight was in the high 300's. he lost 40 lbs pre op and has lost another 30 so far.

There are many in this group that started where you did so give it a bit of time and you will get some responses. I suggest posting the same thing on the main vsg forum and you will get responses there too. congrats on taking charge of your life. you won't regret it.   Diane

Hi LaToya.

I started out at 410 and today I was 174 - and this is just four days post plastic surgery (my tummy and arms) and I am still very swollen.

It can be done.  I lost the majority of my weight in about 15 months with a very low carb diet and exercise.  The surgery does a lot for you the first year or so, but after that you have to kick in with additional willpower.  Nevertheless, if I skip the snacks and just keep to meals, my restriction is still good now.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
