Friends worried I'm melting -- choosing a goal weight rationally

Carolyn, I agree, people have lost what is "normal",
I am getting (almost every day now) "are you still losing?, you're already too skinny!"
Well, I don't think I am too skinny and my surgeon doesn't think so either.
The weight lose happens so fast that people are so used to seeing us "fat", that being at a "normal weight seems way too different.
My BMI is around 21, which my surgeon thinks is really good. Had my one year check on Saturday.
I am wearing loose size 2 jeans and small or extra small tops and I am totally happy with that and feel very healthy! I'm 5'3" and weighed at 119.6 today.

Do what feels right!

When I needed to create a weight loss widget on OH, I had to pick a goal weight, so I picked 150.  It was 9 lbs lower than I'd ever been as an adult and seemed like a realistic goal.  (Although I never reallly expected to reach such a weight.)

To my surprise, I fell right through that and kept losing.  For the past couple months I've been at 133 or thereabouts, and these days I hear variations on "you're done losing, right?"  My BMI is 21, like Diane, and I'm happy at this weight.

I think picking a goal weight is a crapshoot, and the body will decide where it wants to settle out.  That's how it worked for me, anyway.  I didn't deliberately increase calories, but my capacity for food increased slightly right about the time I hit this weight.  Like Diane and others, I tend to avoid carbs (most of the time), so the increased calories come from protein and fat.  I range from 1000 to 1700 a day, I'd say the average is around 1200-1400.  (I don't exercise.)

As far as advice, I've read a pretty good response on the main board, which is along the lines of, "Thanks for your concern.  I'm working with my surgeon and nutritionist on what would be a healthy weight for me."

It's really, really common to have friend and family freak out as we lose weight and even think we're anorexic or have some sort of illness. It's an adjustment for them too. But most of the time, they are dead wrong and it's their hangups talking not reality.

Also, I can tell you from experience that people will get used to your size and a year out from when you get to goal they will be saying things like "I see you took my advice and put on some weight" when your weight hasn't changed by a single ounce!

Thanks!! All these words of wisdom are very comforting. I'm seeing my surgeon on Monday and will get his input. As a second opinion I'll ask my PCP next time I have some reason to go. I've been so healthy I haven't checked with her in months.

It is funny how other people perceive weight loss. When I was heavy, people used to think my weight was going down when it wasn't. Not long ago my MIL suggested that I must have lost at least 10 pounds (I was down 50). LOL!

Thanks again everyone!
