CNN came calling...

Well, it seems my 5 minutes of fame are not over.  CNN saw the local news report about WLS and military dependents qualifying and now they want to do a segment on the Anderson Cooper 360 program.  Oy Vei!  What the heck did I get myself into?  I'm not sure I want to be the wls crusader and now face a national audience.  Some of the comments from the local broadcast were brutal, what would the national comments be like?  I also felt like I was duped by our local reporter.  He presented the focus of the interview in one way but had a completely different angle when it aired.  For those who missed my segment, you can log onto www.kiro7.com and search Heather McClellan.

What would you all do if you were in my shoes?

Oh that is a tough decision. I jus****ched the report, and you are right, it is not flattering at all. It's all done from the angle  of "tax payer dollars" spent on WLS, and cosmetic surgery. I have no doubt in my mind that our military wastes money on TONS of things, but to take this angle...yee**** didn't come accross good.

EXCEPT YOU LOOK FAB!

I think if you are at all uncomfortable with doing the national segment then skip it. They'll find someone else to dupe into giving their story.

I think that they proved to you they are gonna do what ever sells, and it doesnt seem that being honest and up front is part of being a reporter.

For me id be a bit cautious as you say this time its goes nationally ...  I think even Frisco made comment the first time on your thread, that they do it on live shows where they have the guest speaker thinking they are there for one reason and being all nice to them, until the camera rolls..

Id hate for you to be dupped yet again..

YOu looked great and did a great job but I would NOT subject myself to that again.  They can certainly twist stories can't they. I can think of alot worse things to spend money on than taking care of the families of our soldiers!!  It really upsets me they way they talk about this surgery as if it is cosmetic....you are saving money by doing it in the long run.  Anyway...I would not do it.

I wonder if the CNN request has anything to do with the proposed Tricare benefit cuts.  I received this email on Nov. 29th.

Oppose McCain TRICARE Fee Hike

The Senate is expected to finish action on the FY2012 Defense

Authorization Act (S. 1867) this week.

One of the amendments to be considered soon is a proposal by Sen.

John McCain (R-AZ) to significantly increase TRICARE Prime

enrollment fees over time.

Previously, the full House of Representatives and the Senate

Armed Services Committee approved language to specify the

percentage increase in Prime fees can't exceed the retired pay

COLA percentage in any year.

The McCain amendment would eliminate the COLA cap and let the

Pentagon hike fees by some unspecified index of health cost

growth (estimated by DoD at 6.5% per year).

Over time, the McCain amendment would increase fees by hundreds

of dollars a year.

Time is short, and we need phone calls to fight this

inappropriate fee hike.

Please use MOAA's toll-free Capitol Hill Hotline (1-866-272-6622)

and ask the Capitol operator to put you through to your senators'

offices (to identify your senators, go to

Give this short message to the staffer who answers the phone:

"I'm a constituent, and I want my senator to OPPOSE Sen. McCain's

defense bill amendment #1230 that would impose further increases

in military TRICARE fees."

If you get a busy signal, please try again in a few minutes.

They must have removed the part about you, as the video I watched didn't even mention your name.  But what I saw was ridiculous.

People who have never had a real problem with food have no clue that just portion control and exercise is all we have to do.  They just don't understand the "head" games that we have to endure.

Idiots!

And I wouldn't talk to CNN for all the money in China.  I like Anderson Cooper, but I'm afraid the slant that they are looking for isn't favorable to those of us who have had WLS.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.
