2 year aniversary

Yesterday was my 2 year aniversary of getting sleeved. I spent the day driving back from San Jose bringing my DH home from being sleeved himself. Can't think of any better way to celebrate this than helping my husband begin his journey. The drive was uneventful and we have our doggies home and its good to be home. I think dh will recover quickly now that he can rest at home.

What an astounding two years this has been. Right now I don't have time to post everything I have learned (which is considerable) so I will save that for a later post. But to summarize life is so much better at normal weight in every imaginable way. So much more I can do and enjoy. And I have been able to maintain goal weight for a year now and have acutally dropped below goal.

I am looking forward to revisiting the joys of the journey with my husband as he moves forward. He has vowed he is going to do this even better than me by exercising more than I did. And he already got off to a better start as surgeon said he had done a great job of shrinking his liver and it was pretty normal; unlike mine that was pretty fatty in spite of pre op weight loss. And he thinks his protein drinks taste good (I hated all of mine) so that will make life easier.

So there you have it. 2 years out and things couldn't be much better for me. My only issue is I would like to build some muscle and strength but hate exercise. Will just have to find a way.

All of you have helped me reach this point so thanks!!    Diane

Diane--I have always enjoyed reading your musings. You sound like such a nice person......thanx for being there. I am 10 months out and struggling with the last 30-40 pounds. The secret, of course, to exercise, is finding something you actually adore doing. I am lucky, I found Zumba and it is now my passion. Something about music and moving my body to rhythms---I think I can stick with this. If I had a swimming pool, I might have taken that up. Think about something you really like---tennis with an old friend?--joining a walking club?---going on nature hikes?---I am sure now that your husband is on the road to weight loss and his renewed self, maybe the 2 of you can re-discover something energetic to do. And don't forget the dogs--putting them in harnesses and leashes every day becomes a wonderful ritual for you both. (I know, I have 4 pugs!)

Happy surgversary!  I was just thinking today that my 2 years is coming up in February.  It really doesn't seem like that long.  I've followed you from my beginnings and appreciate all you have contributed to my successes.

I wish I could convince my DH to have the surgery.  But he says no.  I worry about his health, but as we all know, it's a personal decision.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

Congrats on your two year ... I can't believe it's been that long since I was meeting you at Good Sam!

I agree that it's cool you guys have your surgiversary around the same time. Maybe you guys can plan a join celebration every year like people do for your wedding anniversary.

Diane,
Congratulations on your two years.  You did such a wonderful thing for all of us by starting this maintenance group.  Your husband is blessed to have you lead the way through his journey.  Continued success!

Congrats on your 2 years, Diane.

Once your husband has recovered, maybe the 2 of you can start walking together.  That would be an easy start to exercising.

Thanks everybody. This truly has been an amazing journey. Third best thing I ever did (first being marrying shrinking nerd and second being getting education).

And speaking of Shrinking Nerd, he is doing remarkably well. Already up to 70+ g protein and plenty of fluid. He did a few minutes on the treadmill today and was able to check in on computer job the day after leaving hospital. He already looks slimmer to me. He likes all his protein drinks even though they gagged me and is concerned about the amount of carbs and calories in the chewable calcium tablets. A perfectionist indeed!. He said he was going to do this even better than me and he already is!    Diane
