Sitting reflecting on some things from last nights support......(11-16-11)

Did Dr. C say to have 30grams of protein first thing in the morning????

I haven't been doing that.... Did I miss the memo? Something new?

I have heard him say in the past couple of months that  he thinks its a good idea to get 30 g protein within an hour of getting up, but I don't think its part of his prescribed program. Personally if I thought I had to do that I would never get out of bed.

Thanks Frisco and all you kind skinny people for lending your support to Shrinking Nerd and me. It was great to come to that support group.  Very interesting.

That would be difficult for me. Between 5:30 and 8:30 I have 3 double shots of espresso and 17 ounces of water, I don't eat breakfast until after 8:30! And no, I haven't heard him say that before, though I have missed the last 2 support groups up here behind the redwood curtain. Will see what he has to say in December. I do remember Weigh****chers encouraging members to eat within the 1st hour of waking.

Diane, I look forward to meeting shrinking nerd at our support group! Maybe sooner?

You sound like me.  I have about 3/4 of the pot between 2 and 4, but my second cup (or vat as the uncaffeinated might refer to it as) I always make a double protein coffee.

Caffeine, get in my system!

You could make one or more of those espressos into "protein coffees" and it would be an easy way to do this.

I think this is a new things and Dr. C gives a lot of advice to us in support group that isn't in the generic manual probably because it's too detailed and not for everyone.

I also think it makes sense because there are tons of studies showing what a bad idea it is to not eat something as soon as you get up and because a protein-based breakfast is very filling compared to the standard carb-based one that most Americans have.

I guess I'm gonna start making AM protein drinks more of a regular thing....

I actually like them a lot now that I can put a few strawberries or blueberries in them.

Hey, so glad I saw this post.  I had just been reading about this.  It's all about "leptin reset"  Interesting reading if you get a chance.  They would rather you don't use protein powder, but if you're a WLS patient there is no way that'll happen without it.  :)

I also never tried it because with my job I get up at like 330 in the morning and there is no way I can handle anything but coffee for like 3 hours, but I just read something interesting the other day that said if you got up extremely early, to just make sure you had it within 30 minutes of sunrise.  PP anad 30 minutes of sunrise makes it doable for me, so going to give it a go.

Oh, and they also talk about only eating 3 times a day, no snacks.  Does he ever talk about no snacks?  I always thought that would make it pretty hard on this population.

Anyway, thanks for posting!

This is an interesting topic.  I think I should try it.  I usually drink two cups of coffee with no food in the morning, then eat 2 hours after I get up.  My breakfast isn't huge on protein either.   This morning I had an egg, a 1/2  oz of cheese, 1/2 oz of smoked ham on a 1/2 slice gluten free toast.  It was only 17 grams of protein.  Which is only half of what Dr. C. is saying to have.  I'm going to do protein coffee tomorrow morning.  I'm willing to see if this is a better way.  Does anyone know why this is good?  I'll research that leptin reset thing that Jaxxy mentioned.  Phyll H posted a thread about protein in the morning  too.

I wish I could have been to that Dr. C. meeting and then off to see the Shrinking Nerd....I'm jealous.  Do i need to move to California to be with you cool people??????

There was a post on VSG forum several days ago that had research showing that high protein in morning was important. Or maybe I read it somewhere else. Wish I could remember where!

Apparently leptin reset is a paleo thing.  This is what I found.
