How are you going to handle the "holidays"

Since i have suffered last year from the "holiday" regain and beyond, i am determined this year to NOT do a repeat...

So my strategies this Year is to only have one meal that is even slightly off plan on ThanksGiving day and Christmas day.  The rest of the meals that day will be on plan and maybe two meals of protein shakes and then my meal...
I am also a bit lower in weight than i was going into the holiday period last year  im sitting at 133/134 and if i drop a bit more before i wont be upset...

There will be no eating for days on end as i see fit i have learned my lesson...

what are your strategies?

I am going to go eat at someone Else's house for both meals and i will bring no leftovers home.  Over the rest of the  Christmas/new years holiday i will allow myself a really good bottle of wine, 4oz of good quality dark chocolate and i will add some good cheese's to that in case i have visitors drop by and have to serve a tidbit.  I've only had one holiday where i didn't gain at least 10lbs and usually more because it went on for weeks and this is what i did and did not feel deprived.

Great answer.  I think you hit the nail on the head with the word "deprived".  If we can find ways to not feel deprived by having things available that do not do much damage, we can get through the holidays unscathed.  I like your ideas!

Last year I stressed so much about this problem. this year i am going to relax and enjoy it. i am not able to eat much so i think i am going to eat turkey till i am full than the rest of the stuff i will leave alone.

i do not bake for the holidays so that is a good thing and we do not go out to party's i hope I do not have a problem. I will only eat on thanksgiving and on Christmas day. I do not like left overs. My family will eat all the left overs.

My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

We are staying home and its is just the 2 of us (and I get to work both days), so I will not be cooking up a storm.  I think fella is going to see his family in Chicago for Christmas so unless I get invited anywhere, Christmas will just be another regular breathing in and out standard meal day!

I will probably splurge moneywise and treat myself to a nice little pile of crab with lemonbutter!

Good idea to go into it with a plan, girlie.

Like you... last Christmas was a disaster!!  I ate what I wanted, when I wanted, it was greaat.  The problem was getting back on plan after.  It went on and on, I really struggled to get back on plan and back in control.

This year wil be VERY different and basically like any other week or day.  We may have a few special meals or treats, but no free for all this year.

I am sure we will both (you and I) be just fine this year!!

Lots of luck my dear, and Happy Holiday Season!

Cindy

I'm not going to wory about it. Christmas and Thanksgiving are just two days out of the year and nothing you can do in two days is going to make or break your weight.

I think the issue is that people use this time of year to go crazy eating crap for months at a time. (Like from Halloween until mid-January.) if you don't look it like that than eating "off plan" for two days is no biggie.

Plus I'm doing a 10k Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. That will burn 600 calories right there, which is more than what's in a slice of pumpkin pie.

Hell, I like 600 calories of whippycream on my slice of Ppie alone!

Actually.. I only like the whippycream and the crust!  I will take 600 calories of whippycream and crust please!  :}

Well, that's the thing... Whipped Cream has something like 15 calories per 2 tablespoons. So even if you covered your entire piece of pumpkin pie with it, that would be at most 100 calories. Just the crust would be much less even if you ate the crust.

I point this out because I think it gets into the whole "good food, bad food" thing. We have this idea that certain foods are "bad" and so we assume they are high calorie and eating them will do horrible things for our waist line.

But pumpkin pie and whipped cream are not high calorie.

Sara Lee Pumpkin Pie - 1/8 of pie: 260 calories
4 TBSP Reddi-whipp whipped cream: 30 calories:
Total: 290 calories

So what is there in that to cause such anxiety in people? To  have them coming up with "freak-friendly" versions? To be so afraid of a piece of pie with some whipped cream?

All I can figure is it's because they are dessert and we all know dessert is BAD, right?

I say, if you love pumpkin pie, get a piece of pie, put some whipped cream on it, eat it and then go for a walk after dinner or not have much for supper. There's nothing to freak out about here.
