smell = hunger

I seem to have discovered a new way to reduce appetite.  I have been stuffed up for about a week now and can't breath or smell through my nose.  This has caused me to totally lose interest in food.  I mean my hunger is completely gone.  I have lost about four pounds during this week without wanting to do so.  I am actively trying to put some of those pounds back on, but until my nose clears up, it might be a losing battle.  My husband jokingly mentioned to me that I might have found an alternative to VSG, wear nose plugs.  :)   Does anyone have any great ideas for how to safely put some weight back on that does not involve nuts and avocados, I already am doing that.

You have a great point.  I am sure that once I am feeling better and can smell and breath normally again, the feeling of hunger will return.  I might just indulge a bit this holiday season.  The trick is to be able to scale back when needed, but I am finding, to my great surprise and delight, that I seem to be able to to just that.  I could never do that before VSG.  Anytime I would indulge before surgery, I would always go way overboard and it would lead to a major weight gain.  In early maintenance, I experimented with this a bit, and I really have come to believe that for me at least, this inability to scale back is gone.  I love the feeling of control this insight gives me.  Thank you for responding; I think I will follow your wise advice.

Oh and one more tongue in cheek tip: SOME smells may induce hunger, but I'm here as a mini-van football mom to testify: the aroma of teenage boy after practice will ruin your appetite for days.

That's too funny.  The pot idea has some merit.  Maybe I have to go visit Diane in her neck of the woods....  hmmm.  Just kidding.
