Now 80% of the way to goal and a question

It took me 3 weeks past the 6 month mark, but today I'm 80% of the way to goal. My body decided to celebrate the end of the 6 month honeymoon with my best month since my pre-op month: 16 lbs in the last 5 weeks.

I'm still 2 lbs from onederland and 5 lbs from overweight. I had originally set my goal as 175 because I'm 5'8" and a large build. It seemed the far end of what was possible for me. Now, a lower weight actually seems feasible.

For those of you who went below your original goal, did you change your goal on the way down, or just go with the flow to see where you landed?

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

My first goal of 150 was set by my Nut, she thought it was reasonable weight considering i was 46 at the time, told me not to expect to get as low as i had been in my early 20's, so getting to that for me was a major victory because id never been able to diet that low, it still left me 5lbs above a normal bmi so i made that my next goal and kept adjusting it down 5lbs at a time. til i got to 140

The weight on my ticker says 138 that was a number my family dr gave me when i was 20 as my weight i should be, well im actually under that too but ill leave that as goal....
my surgeon never gave me a goal just told me to lose 100 percent excess id have to lose 93 lbs...

Thanks for the reply. At the very least I'd like to get so 175 is my "never higher than" weight, but I think I might try for 164 which is a normal BMI. We'll see.

I think I'm leaving my goal at 175 for now. When I get there, I'll have accomplished what I set out to do. If I get further, well hooray. If not, well hooray.

My surgeon set goal range of 130 to 140. When I got to 137 he told me I looked good and was done. I wanted to go to 135 and he said fine. But I got there and kept dropping. Took awhile to find the right amount of calories and to figure out how to get the right amount while still getting protein and avoiding junk. So I just sort of when where I landed, having unknowingly lost some pounds while traveling and being away from scale.

You may well be right that a lower weight is possible if you want. I would encourage you to lose all you can at this point without going below a healthy bmi because it will never be easier than now. Some regain after a couple of years is fairly common (I am waiting for this to hit me) so getting down there is a good thing. But don't fixate on the number on the scale so much as what feels right to you.

Congrats on your success. You are really making this work.  Diane

Thank you. I am trying not to fixate. Just never having been near normal weight I honestly have no idea what a "good" weight for me is.

I really didn't believe this would actually happen for me. This morning I weighed 201.6 lbs (I record to the nearest pound). That's lower than I weighed at the end of elementary school. If I lose 5 more pounds and get down to overweight it will be the first time in my life, child, youth or adult that I've not been obese.

The night after my consultation with Dr.C........ I was here on OH reading up....as I was eating a Pizza.....drinking a 2 liter Diet Pepsi at the same time....I was pondering.......

Dude (Dr.C) says he can get me down to 180lbs. My thought was......get me to 200lbs. and I'll be all good!

Fast forward to when I was down to like 225lbs. Some how Dr.C changed it to 175lbs. I was thinking...come on dude.....what's up with that?

Than I reached GOAL 175lbs. in 11 months !!!!

Bought a bunch of clothes cause I wasn't gonna till I hit goal........

Than it was me asking Dr.C...... I'm thinking 170.... cause I was kinda in between sizes.....He said fine....go for it......Than at 170lbs. I asked him.....I'm thinking 165.......He said you can go to 160 if you want.......

I get to 160 and ask him about going lower..... I was already in crunch mode (the last weight is a fight) He looked at my chart wrote some **** down....examined me...... said there would be nothing medically unhealthy about 150lbs.

My next appointment.... I weigh in at 148lbs. He again looked at my chart and again wrote some **** down....than he said "Perfection" a word I'm not used too.....but I'll take it.

He than said "Stop, your done.....now hold this weight for a year" and that's where I'm at now....I've held 150/plus or minus for a year......thinking my next instructions are going to be.....hold your weight for another year!

Well, I guess after all that.... my answer to you would be to work with your surgeon on your actual goal weight.....being medically supervised.
