VSG Maintenance Group
I have a VERY, VERY curious question...
Hi everyone!
So...I've recently made the decision to get VSG. I'm starting my consultations this week. I'm really excited but nervous too. I've been thinking and my question is... isn't the procedure done in order to lose weight? So, once you reach your weight goal, how do u keep from loosing it and just start maintaining it? Also, did anyone experience any loose skin? If so, how do u tighten it? PLEASE !
Welcome to our group. As you lose weight and get farther out from your surgery date you will gradually be able to eat more and may also need fewer calories to maintain all that body mass which is vanishing. Once you get to goal, my doctor says increase calories by 100 or so per day for a week at a time until you find the calorie level at which you maintain. In my case even though I was a slow loser I had a little trouble stopping and would accidently lose a couple of pounds when I would travel. What I started doing is eating a big blob of peanut butter each evening to get in a couple hundred calories. Now its my nightly treat.
As for loose skin, yes I have some but I don't much care. Better than being fat. How much you have depends on your age and how much weight you have to lose. I guess all you can do is exercise while losing and be hopeful. Big amounts may require plastics. GL and enjoy your journey. Diane

Those were my concerns in the begining!!! Once i went to my consulatation everything happen so fast soo after. My thoughts were Im not happy at my size Now (246) and if i can make a change about it "I will" but definatly agree w/ Diane i think it depends on the weight loss you lose and age as far as the saggy/loose skin. So far Ive lost 18 pounds in 3weeks from my surgey (October 19,2011) and everything is still pretty tight & firm. I'm 31 and praying for no more alteration surgeries but that hurdle ill cross as it comes
