Halloween Horrors
I actually planned it into my day (consumption/calorie wise) and enjoyed a few peices. I typically allow myself a treat of a few hershy kisses or something with a small amount of calores each day anyway so it was just a small adjustment.
That just works for me and my family as it takes me out of the "diet" mentality and makes it easier for me to think about things in moderation so I don't feel deprived or like there are forbidden.

Halloween is a big deal at our house. It's also my daughters birthday. But amazingly enough, the candy was not even an issue for me. I did have two mini Almond Joy bars this week, but that's it, even though we had this huge casche on display.
It was all about decorating and costumes and party planning and celebration.
We had a wonderful time.

I dealt with the Halloween candy issue the way I have been increasingly dealing with food issues: embracing it on my own terms. I actually started buying halloween candy in mid-September. Some of the peanut butter taffy and some "googly gob" eyeballs that amount to peanut butter buckeyes. And in my little lunch box I usually put two. That's all. Halloween night I had other various and sundry candies and I had a couple. I seem to be able to get away with working it this way. I was never really a binge eater and so for me there isn't that pull. The difference is I'm not hungry all the time and feel the need to eat to satisfy that enormous hunger like in the old days. I still have candy left and I plan to continue to eat a small piece in my lunchbox. It works for me. That being said, I don't keep things like peanut m&m's around. NOw that would just be too much of a test.
Update: I had 2 of the fun packs of Reese's Pieces after all so I did eat my 3 pieces I allowed myself.
Mini-Mac had already given out all the candy she didn't like at school and Mr. Mac took our leftover candy to work. Mini-Mac did give me one Snickers mini on Tues. and on Wed., I found a Snicker's Almond bar on the couch and I had half of it. (The whole would have been too much.) I noticed today that the other half is gone, which is fine by me.
Today the school has a field trip to the Jelly Belly factory. I've always wanted to go so I volunteered to drive. Mini-Mac wants to ride with her friends and I can only fit 4 in the car and they are 5 so they went with someone else and I had kids I don't know. The little boys were a bit noisy and smelly but we survived the trip with only some extraneous licking on the way home as something that happened that I hope their parents don't find out about.
I had some jelly bellys at the factory and I bought a lot of Sports Beans that were 'flops" so I got 6 packs for $3 which is way cheaper than buying the Sports Beans packs at the sporting goods store. I also got last year's Jelly Belly Bike Jersey on sale 50%.
I think I've now eaten enough candy to last me until the end of the month.
