Struggling and a PPI question? (X-post)

Hi OH'ers!

I'm not sure what's going on, but lately I am really struggling to stay on plan. I feel hungry all the time, which up until this point, has not been an issue. I'm 9 months and some change out from surgery. I started taking my PPI again yesterday. It has made a HUGE difference in cutting that hunger feeling. I feel a million times better today and the hunger monster is not at all an issue.

What I'm wondering is...does anyone else take a PPI long term for controlling hunger? Can it cause any side effects? I make sure I take my calcium and vites every day. Hoping I get some input!

since acid mimics hunger and you found taking it for one day making a huge difference, id say your reason for taking it is still to control acid..

There are studies that show PPI  do leech calcium from our bones, but then if you have acid and dont control that it can do damage too..

There are quite a few people that stay on them long term, and i think the fact we get blood drawn so frequently should show signs if our bodies were to start leeching the calium from our bones..

good luck with what ever you decide to do..

I still need a PPI. I've found that I can get by with taking it every other day instead of every day, but I still need it to control acid. I asked my doctor about long term use at my 18 month check up and he said it was fine. I would just make sure your doctor knows about this when you go for check ups and be sure to discuss it with them since everyone is different!

Thanks Mini and JP! I have a check up on Nov. 2nd with my nurse. I will definitely mention it.

I didn't get off my PPI until about month 20. But I did manage to get off it eventually...
