Kiro-7 News in Seattle is going to interview me for a segment they are doing on Military Treatment Facilitites continuing with bariatric surgery.  The military is looking at cutting the program to save money and Kiro is looking at the human side of this potential change.  So... A reporter and camera crew are coming to my house on Friday to interview me.  WOW!!  So excited and so nervous.  What do I say???

My husband is retired so not worried about that.  They've already interviewed a couple bariatric surgeons from Madigan.  I think they are also interviewing someone who had problems and regrets their decision.

I had mine at Lackland AFB also and am so thankful it was there!
I wonder if they cut the bariactric program out, who will follow us?   I know they were adamant we follow up annually which is a GOOD thing!
I hope they don't cut it out.
Sounds fun (scary!) being interviewed on tv!

I would definitely emphasize the medical necessity of bariatric surgery for the morbidly obese. It helps to eliminate many major co-morbities, such as sleep apnea, diabetes, joint issues, hypertension, cholesterol issues, and the list goes on and on. In the long run, it is more cost effective to perform surgery on the morbidly obese, than to pay for the long term costs of treating chronic health issues.

Someone is very short sighted to think about eliminating WLS. At my pre-op, my surgeon said that the large HMO that I belong to performs WLS, because it works. About 70 % of people keep off 50% of their excess weight, vs 5% of people who diet their way down. It is a no brainer.
