6 mos out and worried about restriction
I will be 6 mos out on the 20th and happy with my progress, but I'm concerned about portion sizes. I have stuck to the plan on food. I am able to eat 5oz of protein and 1-2 oz of veggies. The servers at restaurants don't even notice that I am not normal, I am eating enough off the plate. I do a protein drink for breakfast and a half of banana around 11, 4-5 oz of protein for lunch plus 1oz veggies, beef jerky snack around 4 1 oz. dinner same as lunch and milk in evening. I am still losing 1-2 lbs weekly and I am 14lbs from goal. Should I worry that I can eat 5oz of meat and not feel full? If I wasn't drinking water an hour afterwards I would feel like I am hungry.

I will say that at almost 18 months out there is no way I can eat 5 ounces of dense protein. I can barely get 2 ounces in. However, I do get hungry more often maybe because I can't eat that much protein in one sitting. When you say you can eat 5 ounces, are you weighing to make sure it is 5 ounces? Is it dense protein, like steak or chicken breast? Some meats aren't as dense and I can eat more. If you are still losing, I'm not sure I would be too worried.
Yes I do measure today was turkey loin cooked on the grill. I can eat a 4-5 oz filet.

Everybody is different. While I can eat more like 3 to 4 oz dense protein, I don't think its any big deal that you can eat this amount. What is important is that you are still losing a pound or two per week, are able to stick to your plan, and are very close to your goal. Thats all that matters. You will get to your goal pretty soon. You are right not to eat until stuffed and to satisfy hunger with a little extra protein rather than carbs. Keep up what you are doing and I bet we see your goal announcement soon. Diane
I dont think you need to worry about not feeling full, because its more about feeling satisfied, i can not eat that much food but there seem to be more and more people that can.
.
I also think its just something you have to watch and make sure that your eating on program most of the time and that if your getting in dense protein to keep you fill longer..
it is certainly something i would discuss with your surgeon and especially if your restriction gets any worse than it is, and ask him how many ounces did he make your sleeve...
wishing you all the best with your continued journey

I wonder, if it might have something to do with being a male and larger than a woman? I don't how tall you are, but if you are taller, your stomach may just be bigger. 4-5 oz for a male doesn't seem to be excessive. Just keep measuring and weighing your portions, so that you don't have portion creep. What does your program dietician recommend?

Hey Mike, how tall are you? I was thinking that you might have a longer stomach too, which would give you a tad more room for the groceries to go into your sleeve. It's still not much food though, and you are a man. Men need so much more calories than women. I think you are fine. This is probably your sleeve size for life. Mine matured at 4-5 months post op and has been the same since. Many of the vets report that their sleeves are the same since around the 6 month mark as well, even the ones who are 3+ years out. So I wouldn't worry to much about it. Just remember to keep with mindful eating and following the rules like you are already doing.
I am 6 foot tall. I did have a time already that I went from 3 to 4 oz about time the swelling should have went down in stomach. It has now just all of a sudden allowed more. I have a scheduled 6 mos with doctor and nutritionist Thursday. I'll let everyone know what he says. Thanks for all the input.

It's funny that you said that the increase in capacity was sudden, so was mine. I mean, it was overnight...BOOM...I could eat more.
There is a women on this maint forum who is 6 feet tall give or take, she has reported that her tummy is longer as well, due to her height. I think it is Belizesleeve. Maybe she will pipe in...I hope I got it right.

Hey Mike, I found her post. she is the 4th or 5th one down. Her surgeon had to use an extra cartlidge of staples because her tummy is longer due to her height. Here's the thread
