Need advice on maintenance
According to the BodPod people, it's as accurate as hydrostatic weighing, maybe even more accurate because you don't have to blow air out of your lungs! They claim this was found in studies. But I just read this on a page published by Georgia State University:
How accurate is it? If each test is performed correctly according to the recommended guidelines, there is a ± 3% error. According to McCrory, et al.*, the Bod pod has a validity of r = .93 using hydrostatic weighing as the criterion measure. * Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 27(12): 1686-1691, 1995.
This makes it around as accurate as using skinfold calipers on 7 points on the body (vs. the 3 that most people use) and not as accurate as hydrostatic weighing which has a 1.5% margin of error.
I also found a study that was done on football players that said that BodPod results were unpredictable compared to hydrostatic weighing and DEXA scan.
Then there is this:

If I'd known all of this, I never would have scheduled the appointment and would have gone with the dunk tank even though the testing site is less convenient. (I found the dunk tank to work reasonably well for me, giving me believable results.)
The BodPod, OTOH, gave ridiculous results. It claims I have 32% body fat and only 86 pounds of non-fat stuff (lean muscle, bones, organs). If that were true, ite means I have LOST 10 pounds of muscle/organs/bones since I did the dunk tank test and I have 20 pounds more of fat than I did two years ago. Except I'm exactly the same size in my clothes, I have visibly more muscles in my arms and back, my calves are 1 inch smaller and my other measurements are the same or only an inch bigger, no where near as big as they'd have to be to account for all that extra fat.
What really ****** me off is that the guy giving the test is going over these numbers as if they are real when you just have to look at me to see they aren't. This just reinforces my opinion that the average trainer is not very intelligent. Also, his gym was dirty. (Not that this has anything to do with the BodPod accuracy; it just annoyed me. LOL)

Your results are very inaccurate. The last time that I saw you, you certainly didn't have 20 lbs of fat on you. Maybe, there was something wrong with the person running the test.
I hate dirty gyms, too.
I still want to be retested, just to validate or not, the last results. I think all the fat is on the back and inside of my legs. Two weeks before I had the test done, I asked my trainer how much fat she thought I had on me, and her response was 10%, which was very accurate according the hydrostatic test. I was surprised that she was so correct. Blew me away.

Hydrostatic testing is better for measuring trends too. There are still individuals that it fails, but not as many as BodPod.

I just skimmed through your thread..... looks like you got your answers.......
