I'm only 6 months out, but I've been reading some posts on here about the cottage cheese test. Only one problem: I know how much cottage cheese I can eat and it's one bite, gag, done.

For the sake of my insatiable curiousity I wanted to test my 40f tiny-tummy because I keep marveling that it hasn't gotten huge after all I've read about bougie size (I know my surgeon said he was making a tight 40, but still). Anyway, here was my experimental method:

Take one container of sugar-free pudding. Add a little milk to thin, then back into the container so it filled to the original spot. Conduct cottage cheese test as directed. I got just over 3.5 oz. Does that sound right at 6 months? I know I can't eat 2 oz of solids, but this was more fluid and would fill every space in my tummy.

Whaddaya think? Fairly valid or way off?

hmmm not sure pudding and cottage cheese count as the same lol... i have heard of drs in australia making their patients do it with rice pudding.

but if he did a really tight 40 it may very well be the same as someone with a 32 that is not tight..
if at 6 months out your not eating 2 ounces id not be concerned lol..

I'm not concerned, I'm curious - just how I'm wired.

Myself and a few other vets who no longer frequent the board did it with the thick and creamy yogurt.

At 18 months out, I hit about 4.5-5oz with the yogurt, and then I forced down doing it with cottage cheese, and got the same meeasurement.

So, for my body, the yogurt worked the exact same.

The key is the time. It's gotta be done in that 5 minute time frame.

I did not thin the yogurt before. I simply followed the directions.

Yikes. Took me at least 10 to 15 min to eat 3.5 oz of pudding. Guess that's nothing but good at this point. Too many carbs in the pudding to try again.

It's all sliderish at least for me. I can shovel in huge portions of slider foods so for me, it doesn't really matter if I can eat 4oz in 5 minutes, or 4 cups in an hour. I steer clear of those foods for 85-90% of the time.

I'm thinking your all good!

Two reasons......

The 2oz. Solids for meals.....

And I've followed your posts and can tell your very conscientious and have this figured out pretty good!

Hey there,
I have a 42 FB and if you use it correctly, it won't get huge. As you get further out you will have more room. Well, That's from my experience. I only do 3ish to 4ish oz of protein...Or 2ish 3ish ounces of protein and some veggies/starch per meal. BUT, seems a lot of the white carby stuff will fit in. Oh and nuts!..LOL

Pudding it too slidery IMO. The standard recommendation I've seen is to use oatmeal made up fairly thick if you don't like cottage cheese.

I have a 40f but it wasn't pulled tight.   I did the cottage cheese test at around 12 months and could get in 5 oz.

At almost 20 months, I can eat gobs of slider foods but 4-5 oz of pork chop and I'm good to go for 6 hours.  I know I can eat more protein than some others but keep it in check.  If I'm adding some veggies, 3-4 oz protein is my limit.

Our sleeves work really well if we respect them.
