13 pounds to initial goal......can I start posting here too ?

Well, I have lost an (astounding, to me anyway !) 117 pounds in the past 14 months since starting my pre-op classes at Kaiser HMO.  I lost the first 34 pounds pre-op, and now 83 since my January 24, 2011 surgery.

My surgeon and I set 170 pounds as my goal weight, although technically this weight still has my bmi just a tick OVER overweight -- I need to be 166 to be just plain overweight for my shortness.....but at my age of 55, and some other medical factors, we both felt that 170 would be a monumental victory.

This morning I weighed 183.   I realized that 170 is just around the corner -- I hadn't let myself focus on anything else but the next pound, the next half a pound....that it kinda snuck up on me !

So......am I close enough to goal to start posting here with questions and for support for the next 20 or so pounds ???!!!

Of course!  Welcome aboard.  Most of us are not at goal, either, but feel like we're beyond the newby stage.  Most of us have questions and concerns that only those farther out can answer.  Good luck with those final 13 pounds.  You can do this!

Thanks all ! It is intresting how weight loss changes as time goes on. I was used to slow but steady weight loss for a couple weeks straight, then a week or two of a plauteau, then back to losing again.....

Now, it seems like I lose a couple pounds over a week or two, then gain it back with no good explanation, except that is what my body does right now....and then the extra weight that I lost and now gained sits there for a week, then disappears with another half pound, and then I lose another pound or two....and do it all over again....so I figure that if the pattern happened three times in a row; it's just a new body pattern; and as long as the weight comes off at the end of a month of looking at it; then I'm OK with it !!!!

Weight loss slower than at first, but I've never been a 'fast loser..."

I look at it as being in this for the long haul....it is a total life style change for me, not a race to the finish line.

Thanks again !

Absoluetly. Everyone is welcome on this board but those who are beyond a few months and have longer term issues and questions are what we discuss most. So you can find a lot of insight here for the final steps of getting to goal and then staying there. Welcome.  Diane

You're so close now that goal is right around the corner.

This is a great board for support and encouragement whether you're still losing or trying to keep it off!
