Hi Maureen,

Here are some of the things I think you might consider.

1) Are you really hungry, or are you thirsty?  Thirst mimics hunger.  Often when I think I am hungry and it has only been two hours since I ate, I drink a large mug of vanilla chai tea and it fills me up.

2) Are you sure it is not acid?  This too mimics hunger.

3) Sometimes I get "shaky" hungry.  When I spoke to my doctor about this, he told me that it had to do with my increase in carbs.  I cut the carbs out, and voila, the shaky feeling went away.  It seems to only come back when I eat more carbs then usual in a day.

4) I make sure to have VSG safe foods in the house at all times.  For me that means foods with high fiber low carb veggies and protein.  I always have chili or chicken veggie soup, or tuna and veggie salad, or something like that in the refrigerator.  If I am hungry and it is between meals, those are my no guilt foods.  I also have a steamed artichoke with my favorite Greek yogurt dip at nights to prevent night grazing.  Sometimes, I have to have the tea first, wait a few minutes and eat one of my "safe" foods.  I am usually good to go after that.

I am glad you came back and I hope you stick around to help us when we get stuck. Good luck to you and let us know if anything helped.

Thanks Elina --

I'm going to concentrate on making sure i'm meeting my protein and fluid goals, and see where that gets me. Having "good" snacks on hand at all times is a great suggestion and I went shopping yesterday for all the old standbys.

all i can suggest it journaling food and making sure you are getting enough protein. maybe even uping it. I was kind of hungry alot today and then added my journal up and realized i was about 200 calories short. no wonder. regular protein meals with in between snacks of almonds or skim milk are important for the long term. hope this helps. five protein meals a day is suggested by my surgeon.  diane

Hey Maureen, nice to see you back! I think the last I remember seeing you, you were headed somewhere away from home to work for a few months?  How did it go?  Are you back home now?

No answers to your post as I'm pretty much in the same boat.  Always hungry and I drink plenty and take a PPI.

Hi Sandy!

Yes - I was down in Nashville for about 4 months for work. I ended up meeting an awesome guy down here and moved down permanently in January. It's wild! But doing really great...I love it down here!

Hope you're doing well. This hunger thing stinks, but I'm just going to try to deal with it sensibly. No one ever promised us a silver bullet.

Good to see you again!

I'm so glad you're doing so well!  Mr. Right always helps as well as loving where you're living!

Nice to have you back and I hope we can both kick this hunger to the curb!  I am making a small attempt at taking a tums when I feel hungry, I figure the extra calcium can't hurt (I know it's carbonate but not harmful).  I doubt it will help but who knows!

I was just thinking and wonder if it could be hypoglycemia.  Erica, from my home board (Ontario) has this and has similar reactions I believe.  I'll ask her to come here and explain it a little.
