Off the Scale for 1 month.

Well..... I took the training wheels off for one month.

Stayed off the scale !!!!!!

Felt kinda like a High Wire Act in some ways........ But in other ways it felt very freeing......

Don't get me wrong... I love my scale and consider it my friend and team mate in this whole process.

Part of it has to do with Elina's transition into mindful eating and morphing into an "advanced normal"

During this month I have been on two trips..... one three day and one four day.

Well, this morning....... 148.6lbs !!!!!

No Change !!!!!

Now before you think I'm getting over confident........not the case......I still have to weigh in 30 days with Dr. Cirangle. He told me 11 months ago to hold my weight for a year.

I am gonna maybe transition to a frequent weigher than a daily weigher. Staying off the scale for that month really made me think about mindful eating and daily disciplines especially while traveling.

Stay tuned for my 2 Year Update.

I stay off the scale for 2 weeks whenever I hit a stall and I find that knowing I'm off the scale makes me even more conscious about staying on program...but at this point a month sure seems like a high-wire act.

How frequently are you planning to weigh? Have you always weighed daily?

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

That's interesting because I was getting lazy about weighing thinking I could tell by my body that I was okay. Then a pair of pants I bought 2 weeks ago and never wore wouldn't zip up yesterday. So I weighed today and I'm up quite a bit from my "don't go over this weight" weight.

This is somewhat normal for me this time of year so I'm not panicked but I also know the trend won'tstop until I make some changes to my eating -- stuff I can get away with in the summer, even need to do to maintain that just doesn't work when my workouts go down in volume.

So I'm back to being a daily weigher for a while.

Knowing you as well as I do, I know you will be fine weighing a few times a month or so.  I think you will be able to tell by your jeans if something is going wrong.  Also, you are very careful in keeping your portions small.  I think you will be OK.

I would not be able to do this, as my weight does fluctuate and I do on occasion feel like I need to pull the food in a bit more.  I like weighing every day, it makes me feel accountable and in control.  If I needed to go off the scale for a while, I feel like I could do it and I would almost certainly be even more aware of what I am eating.  I totally get where you are coming from.

At the beginning of my journey I did not even own a scale or a full length mirror.  The reason for this is, I am very competitive and I also lose weight very quickly, but I gain it just as quick.  I wanted this time to be different.  So rather than trying to 'diet' and lose as quickly as possible I was bound and determined to lose weight slowly, consistantly and eat what ever I wanted in moderation.  I planned to make changes for life.  It worked great.  I found it hard, but my clothes, pics and measurements let me know I was consistantly losing.

I would head over to the local clinic once a month and weigh.  I liked it because I never experienced a stall that way.  It was great.

After several months I got both a brand new Tanita Scale and a full length mirror, and I use both daily now...

Good luck to you and I hope it works out just the way you want it to.

Thanks for the post Frisco!! I think the scale is hindering my weighloss efforts!!...I seem to get down, allow myself whatever and back up I go...So, out goes the scales!!!..I was a daily weighinner..hehe

Weighing daily helps to keep me mindful and on track. I don't worry too much about the day to day fluctuations, but take my weight for the week on one day/week. I mark it on a calendar, so that I can catch trends early on. I have been maintaining within a two pound range since mid-April, so this is working for me. I plan on continuing to do this, because in the past, when I have stopped doing this, I put the weight back on.

Congratulations on maintaining without the scale.

Good luck with your new mantra! I like to weigh in the mornings before I get into the shower, but don't obsess about it anymore like I used to. Now I sometimes forget to weigh and I'm ok with that. I went out of town for a 5 day trip and came home to a 3 pound loss. This was right after my dr told me he doesn't want me to lose anymore. Now I'm actually worried I'd lose more if I went to mindful eating like I did on my trip!
