 so far, I am not seeing the sugar link but I am with you on the salad - I think it is more fiber.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I found a sugar reference;

http://www.livestrong.com/article/469378-can-sugar-cause-blo ating-painful-gas/

Can I share something?  I'm sure it really doesn't pertain, but do you mind if I share?

I went to my wheat allergy/Celiac disease support group last Saturday.  They had a nutrition lady as a guest speaker.  First she covered vitamins, because Celiacs malabsorb vitamins, then she went on to teach about fructose malabsorption.  I had never heard of it.  But, apparently 40% of the population suffer from it, Celiacs being one of the groups prone to it.  There is a test for it.  (hydrogen breath test).  Veggies, fruits, sucrose, are all on the gas and bloating list when a person has this condition.  I don't think I have it, but I found the speech interesting.  Gas and sugar are apparently related.  Also, 6 people in the meeting had been diagnosed with fructose malabsorption.  One was crying because her diet was even more limited than before.  Instead of just avoiding wheat/rye/barley, now she has to avoid sugar, many veggies, and fruits.....bummer...the other 5 were already in the accptance stage, so they were not emotional about it, however, I am sure they were crying in private.

Oh, and by the way, I got to actually eat at a potluck, for the first time in 2 years, because it was at the meeting, so all the food was gluten/wheat free.  I tried to make a pig out of myself, but it's hard to do with a sleeve stomach!  I was like a kid at Christmas.  As you may recall, I can't participate in regular potlucks.  Even things that may not have wheat are a problem because of cross contamination and the foods being prepped in wheaty/gluten kitchens with pots, pans, containers, dishes and utensils that have had contact with wheat.  So, it was awesome to eat food that was safe, made by all of us gluten impaired people, in our safe, gluten free kitchens!!!

I hope you don't mind me sharing.  The wheat allergy is such a huge part of my life and it's hard to balance sleeve life with wheat allergy life.  I went to the wheat allergy/celiac support group on Saturday, then on Sunday, I went to my sleeve support group.

Ha Ha ha....dontcha know? I'm a professional hijacker??

  Really, I hoped you didn't mind.  I know you like to learn stuff, so I thought it would be interesting......I mean, who knew that 40% of the population can't digest fructose????  Who knew????  LOL.  And who else do I have to share the bizzare stuff I learn in my alternate wheat impaired life????

Has anyone mentioned the fart producing bean connection????

You said you are going to test oats. Jackie, they make me fart so bad that I avoid them like the plague.  We're talking cramping, bloating, stinky gas from hell.  I dearly love oats, but they do not love me.  I use to eat oatmeal for breakfast, and noticed that I had the gas problem around noon everyday at work....killing my co-workers and patients....so I had to stop eating oatmeal..it was that bad!  Please let us know how they affect you.

Carbs, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, chili!!  I always want chili but have to remember NOT to eat it on the days I have Pilates class!  I do best sticking to meat and salad.
