Hi Mac,

The reason that we need to take B-12 sub-lingually, is that intrinsic factor, which is located in the stomach is thought to be necessary for absorption of this nutrient. Because we had so much of our stomach removed, we have less intrinsic factor and we need to supplement either by injection or sublingually.

Except many of us don't need to take B12 at all! So apparently most of us have plenty of intrinsic factor, at least enough to absorb B12. My surgeon says only about 5% of his patients have issues with B12.

Cindy- Something to keep in mind: you need to take supplements based on YOUR labs, not someone else's, not what some program says, not what the "experts" recommend or even what your buddies (that's us! LOL) recommend.

Something I see all the time is people posting on OH saying "I feel like this" and then people respond with "take X" or "take Y" but, as I mentioned before, there is no sense in taking stuff if you don't need it.

You just had labs done so when they come back, you will have a blueprint for your supplement needs.

P.S. I had my labs done yesterday too! It must be that time of year or something.
