VSG Maintenance Group
Should we modify this group?
I am a middie and I am just fine with the group. Diane, you do a good job of making us all feel important.
By the way, I see that we share the same surgeon. At my 4 month post op last month, I was surprised when he told me that I should not weigh my food. Instead, I need to measure the volume of the food in a measuring cup. Eeks! Evidently I was overeating and did not know it. I find it difficult to mash up my food in a measuring cup. Any suggestions?
Thank you.

I am not a Dr. C patient, but here is how I look at weight versus volume. I am sure someone else will chime in and share their opine with you.
For me, if I am eating 1/4 cup of *whatever* - for me, by 4 months, it was just meat with maybe a bit of salsa, I would put 2 ounces on the scale and then grind it up in the magic bullet.
This DOES fit into 1/4 cup measurer. I can cram amazing amounts into cups, but I cannot fiddle/argue/screw with ounces.
WAit, we had a nice conversation where a lot of folks chimed in. I will paste the link and then go bump it up on the other side in the main vsg forum. I hope that between all the input and and fun you can clear up the blurry spots!

Hi Hopeful
Well you can't go wrong in doing whatever Dr. C says. His patients have remarkable success. I lost more weight than I ever dreamed possible and love it. He never told me what he told you but he did ask me about how much I could eat in terms of volume - i.e. how much of a cup. So I guess thats what he is interested in - how much your restriction is. As Frisco says, try to eat below your capacity and not until you feel stuffed. Its uncomfortable and a bad habit. thats what we did before wls - ate until we were stuffed. After awhile you will learn to eyeball how much a half cup is and not have to measure everything. I still go by ounces on meat so I can know the protein which I still try to keep at 70 as per Cirangle instructions. And at your phase I still used protein drinks sometimes to get protein in. I don't think you need to mash up stuff more than once. you will then know how much to have. GL. looks like you are doing well. Diane

How about eyeballing it? Hold your fist up to a measuring cup and see if it is around the size of a cup. Mine is. So when I want to know the volume of my food, I hold my fist up to the food.
Also, I early out I measured everything that was easy to measure and that way my eyes got used to what was 1/4 of a cup, 1/2 a cup, etc. even if it was a food I didn't want to measure for some reason. (Like a hamburger patty. It's not a patty if you mu**** isn't a measuring cup, right?)
