That is so awesome! The first thought that came to my mind is thinking how small holiday meals would be.....or you could possibly have left over for a year....hahaha.

I'm glad to hear Rich is doing well. Is his wife going to go to Dr Winterstein?

yep, she will go to winterstein too. should be good for both of them to be on the same deal. Yeah, our thanksgiving dinners could be one turkey wing and a fourth of a potato mashed. ha ha. unfortunately we are 2000 miles apart so we do thanksgiving with in laws who expect the full fare. I cooked it last year mainly for the sake of our nephew but i just did the basics and had others bring a few things. Since i eat less I also don't feel like cooking all that crap. In fact, I think the women of the world should stage a revolt and refuse to cook thanksgiving dinner. I always got stuck with it even though I worked wednesday and the friday after most years. Some holiday.   Diane

Diane,
That's exciting about your DH and SIL.  Hopefully all surgeries will be routine with quick healings.

Wow!  Your family is really about to extend their life expectancy with many more years free of morbidly obese complications.

Bravo for all of you!

I'm jealous. Not only will Mr. Mac never get surgery but I found out he's stopped taking his cholesterol meds as well. He's just a big heart attack waiting to happen.

Yeah I am pretty thrilled about this. For a long time he thought he could lose without it and it took every bit of restraint I have no to nag him. But he came to the decision on his own - says seeing himself on a utube video really did it - but now he is quite gung ho and has lost 20 lbs preop and will be finished with preop tests in the next 10 days. Then its up to Dr, C's office to submit to insurance. So we hope for October but probably be november. I am hoping I can see some of my bay area buddies when we come down for it. But it might be at the hospital in Concord which Cirangle is getting set up at.

I too really worried that hubby would have some health crisis and then it would be too late so I am so grateful he is doing this. He even likes protein drinks.   Diane

I've been a bit of a lurker (not quite ready for maintenance but want to have a good idea of what to do when I get there) but I needed to chime in on this one.  My hubby and I are both sleeved... actually sleeved by the same surgeon in the same hospital exactly 3 weeks apart... probably could have done it at the same time but one of us needed to be able to drive the other home (we both weren't allowed to drive for 2 weeks after surgery).... LOL.

It is wonderful both of us being on the same plan for the most part.  I do have some food intolerances and problems with protein levels so my meals are just a tad different sometimes.  But, it is wonderful to live with someone who "gets it"... and someone who has your back with food pushers (my family).  Plus, it is nice when we do go out that there is always someone to split food with and if we do order our own things then I don't have to cook for a few days and plus I don't look like the only crazy one at the table.

As of this week, our running total for combined weight loss is 265 lbs... hubby just over 6 months post op and I'm about 5 1/2 months post op.

I hope everything works out for your family!

Hi, thanks for your encouragement. I had been hoping for a long time that my husband would decide to have wls and for awhile he kept insisting he could lose weight without it but after another of many failed diet attempts he came around without me nagging. He will complete all his preop stuff in the next 10 days and then start the insurance stuff. He is trying some barriatric drinks now and he likes them so thats good. Glad it works for your family and I am really hoping my husband has as easy a surgery and recovery as I did. It was nothing. He is one of those people who can lose (and gain) weight very quickly so I bet he loses 100 in six months.  All the best and please post any time. You don't have to be at goal to post here.   Diane

My husband had actually been considering WLS for about 5 years before he just went ahead and did it.  He actually even auditioned for the biggest loser before deciding to do WLS.  After he was doing lots of researching, I realized that I met the criteria also.  And, we figured why not do it together... since as long as he had known me (12 years), I'd been on some sort of diet.  My husband is also one of those people who can lose (and gain) quickly... he did a weight loss contest at work and lost 50 lbs in 2 months pre-op (but gained it back) and actually lost his first 100 lbs at almost 4 months post op... including pre-op losses.  Hope all goes well with the insurance.

Thanks for the welcoming words!
