VSG Maintenance Group
3-yr Surgiversary
Today is my 3 Year Anniversary of my VSG.
What a wild ride it has been, I took 1 year and 10 days to get to my PCP's goal weight. I dropped another 8 pounds before I found my combination to maintain. I stick to my surgeon's plan pretty much 5 days a week - I added nuts and dark chocolate in maintenance mode. I still exercise 5 days a week as I enjoy it and feel better after I exercise.
The one thing I learned in my years of dieting was to plan for the cravings, I am a chocoholic. So I needed about 200 more calories a day for maintenance and dark chocolate fit right in and I do not crave it.
Staying on plan has helped me maintain within 2 pounds of my PCP's goal weight of 153 for a women - large bones and 5ft 8in.
My life is totally different - in a great way now. I still have some pain in my knee and hip, but I am not in a wheel chair and when I am ready for the replacement, my weight will NOT prevent me from having it. I have arthritis in my right side - elbow, shoulder, hip and knee.
From my perspective the only thing I would change was having the surgery earlier in my life!
I went self pay as at the time the only WLS UHC approved were lap band or RNY - neither of which I was thrilled with. It was the best investment in me I ever made.
