What would YOU do?

I've always been 5'4".  But when I started this journey, I measured at 5'2".  I know people shrink as they age, but  I was shocked by this.

Anyway, last week when I saw the orthopaedic surgeon, he mentioned to me that my bad knees not only have caused bowing of my legs (which I noticed AFTER I lost all the weight), and on top of that, my knees won't completely straighten out.  SOOOOOOOO, that's probably the reason why I've lost those 2 inches, and he agreed.

Anyway, at 5'2", with my BMI, I'm still classified as overweight.  At 5'4", I'm NORMAL.    I really, really want to "say" I'm 5'4", because I don't want to go any lower and would love to say my BMI is normal.

What do all of you think?  Would this be cheating?

It's crazy that I'm conflicted by this.  I don't want to "cheat".  And I'm really ok with still being classified as overweight.  I would have to lose another 9 pounds to get to normal at 5'2" and I really don't want to go that low.

Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

In my honest, humble opinion I think we should all throw away the BMI charts.  It was never meant to be the "gold" standard of weight ranges.  If I remember correctly, someone just created it but did not mean for it to be the definitive answer on what we should weigh.  I think if you are happy with your weight, then go for it.  As a side note, I am 5'2 and can't imagine losing 2 inches.  Yikes for you!

I also agree...Throw those charts away. I'm 5'11".  BMI (BMI of 28) said I should weigh at the high end 188lbs. I'm thin as it is I'd look horrible loosing another 15 pounds.

It's all about how you feel and if your happy with yourself.

Yeah, forget those dumb charts. You look normal weight in your pictures and you wear normal size clothes. You probably have a few pounds of excess skin weight which don't count. You are normal.

I too used to be 5'4.5". Then I shrank down to 5' 3". But after my weight loss I regained a half inch of height. I think all that weight was squishing me down. Anyway, sounds like your height loss is sort of artificial due to knees. I don't think its cheating to call yourself 5'4. *****ally cares but you and its your height. No cheating here. Rat up your hair and you will be 5'6" tall!!!!! Remeber how we used to do that in high school???!!!!!

I think my driver's license still says 5'4.5". It also still says 200 lbs and has a fat pic. I was too lazy to go stand in line to get a new photo and just renewed by mail.

I would call yourself 5 fot 4 still, because if you were stretched and straightened out, you would be 5 foot 4..  For instance;  how would you measure the length of a banana?  Would you include the length of the bent part?  I would.  I wouldn't cheat the banana out of those two inches, just as a man would not want to be cheated out of those 2 inches.....those two inches are important...KWIM???

Oh Trish you're too funny.  Yes, size does count.  Poor banana AND men wouldn't want to be cheated, so why should I?!?!?!

WI was just gonna say what Trish said.  You are technically still 5'4.  Just because the bone is bowed, doesn't mean it's not there.  You have the bone mass still, it's just a different shape!
