love and a question!
first of all -- i love you!!! it's so fun to come over here and see discussions of things that i'm doing and shouldn't be and that some of you guys catch yourselves doing too -- instant guilt reducer. i'm sort of betwixt and between since i'm still losing/trying to lose (!) but no longer a honeymoon period newbie!
i've been posting the faqs reqularly and i had a question from a new person that i haven't figured out how to answer: does anyone know of a source that addresses the phenomenon of getting hungry after WLS?? i know for a fact that this is not just acid, b/c i have the same issue. i fill up just fine and stay full, but i do get hungry before i eat -- i'm not one of those "i have to set my phone to tell me to eat" people. i'd love to help this person out!
thanks guys!!! will be hanging around a little more for a while. you know you're in trouble when it's only been 7 mos and you're starting to feel like an old lady on the main board! ((((hugs))))
Hey girlie.
Contrary to popular rumor :} the part of the stomach removed is not the *only* place where ghrelin is made. I guess I figure we all produced it at different rates, some folks were not insanely hungry all the time. I was, so I guess I just figure, having most of my production place removed only made it so I get regular amounts, instead of the crazy amounts.
I never lost my hunger either. Eating on a schedule so that I do not get too hungry, and making choices that keep me full for longest are my saving graces.
Edit to add, I think Dr. Alvarez did a video about still getting hungry after the sleeve, which would be on his youtube channel, if you wanted to point them over there.
I never got a chance to watch it, so I am not sure what he has to say about it.
I think you are still in your honeymoon period, at 7 months I expect you will get more capacity and I don't think it is helpful if this ends up taking you by surprise.
I had hunger ONE WEEK post-op - real hunger, that's what it was. I just felt full after very very little. 1 sip of broth, I think.
it's been the same for 3 years, I can and do eat more but I still get full on less food than I did as a pre-op, when eating dense protein, anyway. now crackers I can eat all afternoon long, whole box of ritz! so I just don't start with them.
hugs back!
Jackie
once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.
