I just blacked out

Let me just say I gave blood this morning and drank plenty of water, but maybe didn't eat enough.  I stopped at my son's grave like I do every Friday.  I squat down to talk to him.  When I got up, I walked a short distance, maybe 15-20 feet to my car and was thinking I got up too fast.  I was going to steady myself on the side of the car before I got in and the next thing I know I'm laying in the grass wondering WTF!!  Freaked me the F**K out!!  Got up, sat for a second, drove a short distance home and ate a half banana, then some chicken breast.  I feel fine now, but holy cow!  That has never happened.

Yikes, scary. Did you eat any of the cookies they give you after you give blood? Bet you didn't. You are probably right about the reason. Is your blood pressure low?

This brings up a good point - those of us who want to donate blood should bring our own appropriate snack so we don't have to eat off program stuff.

But don't mess around if you have any more spells. See the doc.   Diane

sounds like your blood pressure went way down - hope you are all better.

so sorry to hear you have lost a son, that's terrible.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Vera That sounds pretty scary. I am glad your okay. You really need to be careful and not drive after something like that. That is one things I have been scared to do after this is give blood. Because my sugar already go's low now. I get blurry vision alot. But went to the Dr's. today and she said my blood pressure was good we just need to check the vitamin levels. I have a bariatric Dr. that is going to take me now so happy. Dr  Price at St Luke's Medical. Take care and be careful. Hugs Sherri

Same thing happened to me after giving blood once. I passed out cold in the Pizza Hut parking lot.

I gave blood at 10:45 and passed out at like 5:00 pm.  Weird.  And yes Diane, I ate a small kebbler cookie thingy, then some string cheese.  I really think I stood up too fast and the loss of blood from earlier.  But I have several doctors appointments set up for Thursday (just my yearly women stuff) and my PCP.  So if I have anymore issues over the weekend, I'll bring it to his attention.   It was just a very weird experience waking up laying in the grass thinking what just happened.

I was told never to give blood again after wls.    I thought it had to do with taking too long to build the blood stores back up again?

First let me say I'm so sorry that your son passed away.  I'm sure it breaks your heart.  How sad.  As to passing out, I bet between giving blood and crouching then standing up really fast, and the grief you were feeling, you had a vasovagal response.  That's a sudden drop in blood pressure and decreased heart rate.  Just a combination of triggers.  Be sure to mention it to your doctor though.  Hope you feel better.

Giving blood does some wierd things to your body. I remember a few years ago, my mother gave blood, and seemed fine, she drank the juice, etc... went back to work at her desk, and an hour or so later, she threw up and passed out at her desk.
You really can't be too careful after donating blood. It definitly taxes your body.

Wishing you all the best, Carol
count your blessings!!!!   At goal weight.   I am 5 ft 3.
