VSG Maintenance Group
hi maintenance folks! how do you stay full at 800-900 cals
Just dropping by again for a little feedback. i know my program is less stringent that many (i have been expressly told by my experienced doc not to go below 1000 cals) so i'm trying to get more ideas about how one can function on what to me, are really low calorie levels. (sorry George and Frisco -- i'm just not there right now!).
so, here are some questions from me, in month 7:
(1) how do you stay full??
(2) how do you keep carbs so low -- i feel like i'm really trying, but i'm not even close
(3) oh, god, i can't think of another sensible question. i'm just really lost.
so, no yelling please. at 7 mos i might be a "vet" sort of on the main board, but i really feel like a newbie.
thanks folks!!! miss you over there, but got the "main forum drives me nuts" message from yesterday's post! ;-)
Hey babygirl.
I stay full longest when I eat dense proteins alone. I eat on a schedule, so even if I am hungry at hour 2 (say my period is coming and I have some anxiety, and so my hunger is riled up) I know that food is not coming for another hour, so there is no point in talking to me about it.
Staying full on lower calories/carbs, have you checked out Sublimate's information on her sleeve busting foods?
Keep carbs low by making lower carb choices. Wrap chicken salad in a romaine lettuce leaf instead of using a bready thing. If you have a hankering for a sweet bready thing, make one ofthose muffin in a minutes in the nukerowave and do not nuke it all the way done so its gooey in the middle, like a lava cake.
I guess I do not understand the "how to keep carbs low" question, because I guess the way I did that was to just to start with a base of protein and not add more carbs in.
Do folks here yell at you much? Really *suspicious eyebrow* ?
Here are her recipes and she even has a link to her food diary on myplate, so, maybe that will be a help?

anyway! thanks for the pointers and i will try to find Sublimate's info by doing a search. good plan!
BTW, your picture is FANTASTIC!!!!! you're looking great, mama!
mwah to you!!
Sometimes you are busy very determinedly thinking the way you think, and it does not *occur* to you to think another way until someone mentions it! I think its just how we are, we try and fix what we can with the way we know to do things! Its not wrong, its just not as helpful as we would like sometimes!!
Now - you DO know that I DO have anything goes meals once a month yes? That I use the strategies in 10 Thin commandments to help keep me structured so I can enjoy foods OUT and SOMETIMES that I cannot keep at home or I wear, right? This is really helpful so that its not a "no not ever" sort of thing, just a "no not NOW." My anything goes meal could be a big ol nasty movie popcorn covered with melted leisure suit once a year on our anniversary, or a basket of chips and salsa plus an "entree" that is really just an excuse for more chips! (like the queso with steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo in it!). So that helps me to not perseverate on something, I do not get it stuck in my head and it builds up until I binge, because an anything goes meal is COMING. Like I had lunch with a girlfriend at the Farmer's Market the other day and had a delicious samosa, which is nothing but a deep fried meat tart! So anyway, here is the book link
http://books.google.com/books?id=Nl2bfrlGW4AC&lpg=PR1&ots=Fr kuEEWBTi&dq=%22thin%20commandments%22&pg=PR4#v=onepage&q&f=f alse
That is the link to the actual book you can flip through . I do not advocate the diet, because its too carby for the likes of me, but his ideas on structuring and how to talk to ourselves differently I really like!
Forgive me if I have said that so many times before! Its just really one of my favorite tools, and I honestly do still go through that book once a month, because you can "know" something, but unless I DO the thing I know, then I just have more crap stuffed in my noggin, and its not changing my booty!
And hey girlie, I linked her profile to that other post, so you do not have to search far!! Which asshole loves you the most? ME! That's which asshole! :}
Thanks girlie! I feel great mostly and that is mostly great! :}
Be sweet, dump the poopy feelings so you doan wanna go eat hard candies!
Eat protein. If you eat lean protein and a few green veggies, you will stay full, your calories and your carbs will stay low. While I was losing, I ate virtually NO bread, pasta, fruit, beans, potatoes, corn, sweets, etc. Pretty much just protein and a few veggies. I still eat very little in the way of bread, pasta, etc. though I do indulge from time to time in maintenance...
Hang in there!!

Please drop by anytime!! We need you!!
Brandilynn is one wise chica! Love you Brandi!
I've been off track for some time and just recently got back into the boards on 8/15/11. I've gone back to some very basic stuff that amazingly still works, thank God!
Dense protein is where it's at!
I was never, never, and I repeat never full on carbs. I got into night eating of dry cereal and granola, cuz ya know...granola is good for us. It never filled me up so I ate plenty!
Mini-Me suggested broth or boullion to help curb my appetite and yippy that works for me too! Gotta watch the sodium though!!
I hope we don't yell on this board. This is the real life board. We can only share what works for us and hopefully people, like me will use this wonderful resource. You can do this! I promise!
Love you girlie!
are you getting in enough fluid? how much?
protein? how much?
the reason I ask this is I find it MUCH easier to add than subtract - add more fluid, add more protein, you just have room for less carbs.
once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.
size 8, life is great
Not everyone does low carb! I feel like I eat LOWER carb, but not LOW carb. Then again, my body is not super carb sensitive and I always lost weight in the past on the traditional Weigh****chers point system.
Here's how I do it. If I make lasagna for my family, I make a row without noodles; if I make tacos I just eat the fillings, no shell. If we go to my favorite Mexican restaurant, I order the enchilada with no tortilla. I have found that for most meals, the carby part adds nothing to the taste and I don't have room for it in my sleeve anyway. If I want a bite or two of the bread / muffin / chip / or whatever, I eat it! This is not about deprivation. It's about the rest of our lives and finding what works for you. If you have a meal that has a lot of carbs, THAT'S OK! Just make it the exception and not the norm.
I don't really count calories, but I start doing some rough math in my head if I feel like I've eaten a lot in a day. For the most part the only thing that makes my calories skyrocket is those damn cashews that I love! I can put away a small bag of those with no problem and they are 350 calories!
As far as keeping full, I find that if I eat a lot of sugary stuff or carbs and not follow the protein first rule then my body starts craving anything and everything and all I want to do is eat when I know I'm not hungry. It takes me 3 days of strict low carbing to get rid of those cravings. I generally follow a "eat every 3 hours" rule. If it hasn't been 3 hours and I think I'm hungry I try and evaluate whether I'm really hungry or if I just want to eat. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. If you're really hungry, that protein shake, piece of meat, string cheese, yogurt, or whatever your go to food is will satisfy that hunger. If its head hunger it won't and then it's all up to you. Your little sleevie can help you stay on track or get back on track, but it's really up to you and the choices you make!
