Salad Question
How much raw green (spring mix, romaine, spinach, etc) can I eat? I cup of green isn't a lot, and if I eat a cup of green, I can't add my strawberries, nuts, etc. to the salad. When it comes to the volume with something like this does it matter?
I hope I am expressing my question well. Here is an example of a salad I enjoy.
dark leafy green
raw nuts
strawberries
blue cheese crumbles
If you put all of this in just a cup, you don't have much leafy vegs. If you put all the leafy vegs in, you don't have room for other stuff....
I am being dense but dont understand. Is the question how much CAN you eat, as in how much will your tum hold? Or how much *should* you be measuring, cuz you are a volume not a weight person?
Me? I eat 1 ounce of meat, 1 ounce spinach, 1 ounce romaine. I can add an ounce or two of fruit to that (figs lately, when my figs were ripe!) or apple, or maybe some orange. If I add half an ounce of nuts to that I will back off the fruit.
Or, 1 ounce meat, from 0.25 to 1 ounce of cheese, 4 olives, 1 once spinach 1 ounce romaine.
I dont ma**** in a cup cuz I dont care for macerated salad leaves, so I go for weight. There comes a point where you have to maybe marry the two (volume and weight) and see what works for you I guess.
if i ate just only 1 cup of greens no way would that hold me for more than 20 minutes. Once you chew up that cup of greens, MAYBE its 1/4 cup.
Me - I can eat the above like I said and be comfortable. I measure using weight, not volume when it comes to greens.
Instead, I eat things like cucumber, brocolli, or a handful of grape tomatoes (yum!) ... much better (and tastier) to me than boring 'ol lettuce.
But, to each his own ... if you are hitting your nutrient levels, then eat away on the salad. I would suggest to eat the above and add more leafy vegs and test for your full signal.

But if you like them then its really a matter of how much you have room for after having met your protein requirements. I think they are good for you to have so long as they don't replace protein. Diane
Salad Dressing
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3 tbsp. sugar - I use real sugar, too
3 tbsp. white vinegar
3/4 tsp. salt
Mix and shake it up. Store in cuproard - not refrigerator.
