OT: asking about Petaluma

Hi folks - I am job hunting and considering all my options, including relocation. there are few jobs in Oregon I'm interested in, one in Colorado, and in California there is a job in Petaluma.

anybody have strong opinions about the place? I have read about it's climate and been on the forums at city-data.com: my biggest issue is trying to find a place I could afford to rent, especially since I have 3 dogs which always makes renting more challenging.

probably, in fact, I couldn't afford to live there but I know there are a lot of CA folks here so I'm asking what you think.

thank you in advance!!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Petaluma...the chicken capital. It is very warm weather and also very dog friendly.  The rental market is better there than in San Fran or San Jose

um, live chickens? as in enormous factory farms of them??

nice to hear it's dog friendly - do you mean for renting or just in general??

There's a once a month WLS support group meeting about 20 minutes from Petaluma.  From what I know of it, the question is affordability for you.  I've lived in the bay area since 1982 and love it.  You'd be a welcome addition.  :)

thanks, Lee, you are very kind. OR is more likely but the though of being that close to San Francisco is mind bending. for years now I've live in a small small small town in a rural area. it's a 3 hour drive at 80 MPH to get to Cheyenne, WY and that "big" city is not even 100,000 population.

I understand.  Before coming to CA, I lived in a tiny town (not a single traffic light in the country) in West Virginia for 8 years.  I grew all our organic food, walked to the dairy for milk to make butter, chopped wood, preserved food for the winter, did all my cooking on a wood cookstove.  So I get the difference between rural and the bay area.  This was the right choice for me as my son was going into 3rd grade and needed different stimulation and great sports.  Now I can't imagine living elsewhere but given what it costs to live here, I may be going to a smaller town after retirement.  Who knows!  :)

Petaluma is nice! It can get warm, but I'd live there. It's a cute little town! If you come out to check it out, let us know!

I like Petaluma. It is a cute town and I would consider living there, if it was convenient to do so. It is an expensive area, so that might be a consideration. It is very close to Santa Rosa.

For me, Petaluma is too far from everything, too small & rural, and too expensive. I think of it as a place to go for a day trip (i.e., a small vacation) rather than to live.

If you are looking at jobs, there are many more if you get down into the Bay Area proper and there are many cheaper places to live. I live in the East Bay so it's 30 min. over to most places in Silicon Valley yet COL is noticeably less here.

well, so far I have only looked for jobs with companies that I know - like the therapy company that I already work for PRN has a full time job in Petaluma.

it's weird when you say it's so small and rural - it is HUGE compared to where I live now, I mean really really huge.
