X post OT: I need a new career
I worked for a year last year as a data coordinator for oncology research. You still have a little bit of patient interaction, but it's very limited. You're really just digging up information in charts all of the time and putting into the trial sponsor's computer database.
It doesn't have to be limited to oncology. A lot of private practices are branching out into research and need these positions filled. Just something else to consider.
As a sidenote, I used to date a rad tech for a long time and have worked in ortho surgery for many years. All of the techs I know have gotten paid in the $25-30 an hour range. This is in Austin, Texas and Ann Arbor, MI.

thanks for the info - "data coordinator" sounds kind of generic, I'm not sure if I have heard of it before!
what kind of education/experience/certification do you need to have? you know, when I am in nursing homes I always ask what the new person with a pile of charts and a laptop is doing. sometimes they are a dietician (rural places share them, not big enough to have their own) but sometimes they are doing some kind of research or collection. interesting.
do you have any websites about this?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.

You basically enter data into computer databases that the trial sponsor is requesting. BSA infomation, ECOG status, chemo dosages, times given, etc. It really is as basic as it sounds. Anyone with a medical background should be able to succeed at it. I had extra duties like screening patients for qualification to clinical trials and collecting and shipping lab kits, but every study is different.
I was trying to rack my brain to think of a website I could send you to, but I'm coming up blank. Look up information for clinical research coordinators. Data coordinators sort of act as their "assistants".
I wish I could be more helpful. If I can think of a website, I'll come back and let you know.
