Hey guys,
What the rule about liquids before/after meals?  10 min before and 45 min after?

And I've always wondered "why"?  Why?

p.s. Back on track since Monday and have lost 5 lbs "already".  My sleeve works if I work it :)

My newop protocol was 30 before and 45 after.  I think especially directly postop that it helps you to feel full longer on a dry tum, than one you just lubed up.

Now, I drink right up until I eat, but I still wait 30 or 45 minutes after, because once I forgot and chunks of meal floating back up into my throat after swigged some water was a lesson I will not forget.

Its just habit for me now, I do not even think about it anymore.

Yaay for 5 pounds!  go Vickz goooo!!

Now I feel pretty stupid about the "after" liquids......Oh, yes know what that feels like!  I had to spit it up in many a parking lot and not so long ago!

Liquids after a meal or while eating flushes the food outta the stomach.

The rule my doc gav we 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after.

I can drink right up to eating. But have to wait 30 minutes after. At first like described above I would pay darely for it. I tried last week to drink 10 minutes after I ate and it felt very uncomfortable. Didn't get sick but bad enough not to repeat.

the first year it was different but now I just drink right up to eating - especially coffee and avoid it afterwards for as long as makes sense. 30 or 60 minutes is a good guess at the time I wait if I have a snack or a meal.

I just go by how I feel, basically.

good for you on your loss - isn't this surgery great??

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

My program says 10-15 min before in the manual but the surgeon says 0-5 min. He and the manual both agree on 45-60 min after though.

If I drink sooner, I either get uncomfortable or I get hungry sooner or I eat more at the meal. It depends on who much I drink and how soon and what I've eaten.

The thing to know is that you don't want to drink right after eating because the dense protein closes your pyloric valve for pre digestion....... So now you have a closed system.....you put liquids on top of that and it has no place to go but up !!!! The cup runnith over.......

It takes that 30 plus minutes for your pyloric valve to gradually open again and release the food from your sleeve/stomach into your lower intestine.

Wow Frisco....I never knew that!  That's every interesting.  It's so hard not to sip a little after eating.  I usually have a few sips and I'm okay.  Love the info!  Makes so much sense to me.  Guess I'm a science girl after all :)
