Feeling really unsettled
I'm single, so I don't have the "I wish my husband wanted to do things" syndrome, but I certainly understand and can relate to "what's next on the journey"? I don't see my old friends near as much anymore unless they want to go hiking etc. I don't have much interest in sitting around or going out to dinner. I started going to my WLS support group at Kaiser when I entered the Bariatric program. When I had surgery three months later, I had connected with a few people. It was funny that at my first meeting I reconnected with someone I had known since 1989 but lost touch with. She and I along with two other women started a small support group to get together to talk 2x a month about our journey. We get together and go to other WLS support groups in the area as well. That turned into walking 2-3 times a week and taking pilates and yoga together. I now see the three of them more than any other friends. This week on Saturday we did pilates, then walked 6 miles. We walked again three more times during the week. For me, finding people to be active with has given me something to do. After working 9 hours, getting in an hour of walking in the evening keeps me from being restless and browsing the kitchen. I guess I've replaced a lot of things that I used to do with being active. At 60 it's a dream come true to be the woman that says... I do pilates, I do yoga etc.... I'm becoming the woman I always wanted to be.
That said... there is definitely an underlying current of what's next. After 50 years of dieting and struggling with my weight, I'm still somewhat on that struggle as a slow loser, but what happens when it's less of a focus in my life? I think about it a lot.
Good luck and I hope that you find "your" answers!! I know we can all relate.

I understand how you feel. I've been doing the same activities for years and really just needed a change of pace, a new hobby. So, I bought a kayak and am having a really good time with it. You have a lot of water near you, I wonder if a kayak would be a fun sport for you to? Another fun activity is Geoacaching, all you need is a GPS and a sense of adventure. Your 11 year old might like both of those activities. My Kayak actually started with my 12 year old wanting one. She got one first, I tried it, loved it, and now I have one too. We have a great time paddling around the lake. Now my husband and my other daughter want one too. I'm glad my daughter wanted a kayak, It's so much fun and has breathed new life into my boring life.
You could rent some kayaks first, to see if you like it.
