I was in a store to day getting dog food only. A lady asked me to come over to look at a shirt she was going to get her daughter. So I went over to the cloths and she put the top up to me and said your just a little thing lol. OMG a little thing I do not see my self as little I am 170 5'6inches tall. I need to be 145 lol. But she said thanks that her daughter needed a bigger size that I was smaller than her daughter.

So I walked away and was wondering when did anyone know there body was finished losing weight it has been 3 weeks and I have not lost weight till this am 2 lbs gone so I guess I am not done with weight loss yet.

My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

A lot of people say "your body will know" but I got down to 109-114 and 17% body fat and was boney and I was still losing. So I made myself stop by upping my calories.

But I based it entirely on appearance and body fat % and not on the scale.

Also, later on I decided to put on 5 pounds of muscle. (Well, I didn't have 5 pounds as a goal, just to build up my strength, but that's what happened.)

Looking back, I think maybe I shouldn't have tried to hard to stop losing weight but just started eating to my hunger and see what happened. But I can't object to my results so it's not an enormous regret, more of a "I wonder what would have happened" regret.

Just out of curiosity...How do you measure your body fat %.

I have one of those scales that you step on and it calculates the Body fat %. My Doctors office has one of those scales as well but different manufacturers.

There's a huge difference between the two. I would like to think that the Doctors office scale is calibrated every so often where mine isn't.

Just curious as to how you do it. I seem to remember that a dunk tank was the best way to determine...although I don't know where to find one.

I went in a dunk tank. It was fun, if wet.

Those scales are only good for measuring relative changes. And the doctor's office scale isn't necessarily better than yours, just different.

Here's the different ways in order by most accurate to least:

DEXA scan
Dunk tank or BodPod (both use displacement; one uses water, one uses air)
Calipers used by a well-trained operator
Bio impedience (what the scales use)
Calipers used by a crappy operator

I would second what MacMadam said.  I lost all the way down to 101 lbs. and got scared that I was getting too thin.  I upped my calories and the losing came to a stop.  Knowing what I know now, I don't think I would have gotten scared or upped my calories.  Just keep eating on program most of the time and things will even out.  I guess you know you are done losing when your body stops losing weight.  I know that sounds trite, but it is the truth.  If you are eating on program and not losing, you are done unless you wish to lower your calories or increase your exercise.  It's all math, there is no magic number.

Nice nsv. Had one myself when shopping the sale racks and everything was too big.

To some extent your body decides when its done, but don't be deluded into thinking thats what has happened when really your are eating more and moving away from your weight loss program (which we all have done). So you must be still on your program if you lost a couple more. I would say if you want to lose more, stay on it right now and don't wait until later and wish you had lost more. Get all you can off now. revisit your food journal and calorie count and make sure you are still in weight loss mode. When you get to where you are ok, which may be here pretty quick, increase calories 100 per day for a week or so and repeat until you stop. I had a little trouble stopping losing and got a little low but my surgeon thinks its fine. Took awhile to find the maintenance sweet spot and it may always be a moving target but I think I am at it.

So my doctor told me when he thought I was done and i accidently lost a few more but he says its ok.   While its nice to have an exact number as a goal, most of us really have a comfort range and thats ok.  I know you will know it when you are there.   Diane

I am also asking to the same question. Have I lost enough or to much? I am down to 179 lbs after starting at 360lbs almost two years back. My BMI is still barely into the Overweight classification for 5'10" but all my family and friends are saying that I look too thin. My weight has been relatively steady for the last two months even though I have continued my 1000 Cal 70g Protein and walking daily program. I will be seeing my PCP tomorrow for my check up and my Bariatric Surgeon later this month for my 1 year post surgery review. I think I hate being called Anorexic almost as much as FAT.

"but all my family and friends are saying that I look too thin."

That's because you went and changed on them and they aren't used to it. Heck, I have a friend who was told she looked like a crack ***** when she had a BMI of 30! Yep, she was still technically obese and clearly not too thin, but her family was ragging on her like she had a BMI of 16 or something.

So you just have to ignore them. They'll get used to you eventually.

I've been wondering the very same thing. I am down to 139 and I am 5' 3". I want to get to 130 but I am wearing size 4 jeans now. According to the charts my BMI is the high end of normal.
I am still losing, though a little slower.
I am a little concerned I might be too thin at 130.

If you are too thin at 130, you can always gain some back.

For me, I found that weight training helped a lot with those "too thin" feelings.  Putting on muscle did up the scale a bit but it also made me less boney. So I'm the same size as I was before but you can't see my ribs or spine any more.
