I think the swelling is going down! (I am referring to my sleeve)

I am 3 mos out and really noticing portions increasing. Of course I worry that stretching is happening. I have never overeaten to pain, never thrown up, never even felt that feeling everyone talks about you will feel and "never do that again" I still measure my food and can eat about 3.7 oz of dense protein sometimes a little more along with 1oz of veggies. In the morning I can now eat a whole egg with 1 oz of turkey sausage in it and 1 oz of cheese. I now can eat enough of a restaurant serving that I only get two meals out of it or almost all of an appetizer. Most of the time people don't really notice in restaurants that are eating with me that I eat very small portions. Are you guys thinking this is all on track or more than you? Btw I am ahead of goal on my docs plan for weightloss and go to the gym for cardio 3-5 times a week. Thanks for your input.

It is true that your stomach will likely hold more and more food as time passes.  But the good news is that there is a limit.  I am one year out and can eat considerably more than before, which means that now I need to be more careful about what I eat and use the strategies you've heard before (protein first to help fill you, veggies) more stringently.

I just returned from 10 days in Italy - where I took time off from dieting and aimed to maintain.  I ordered what I wanted, enjoyed some gelato, and savored the freedom of movement that my new body offers me, and low and behold I came back down a few pounds.  The restriction works if you follow the basics.  My stomach proves that to me over and over again.  Yours will, too.

Good luck.

It is normal for portion size to increase, as the sleeve swelling goes down. When it first started happening, it scared me, but I weigh and measure my portions and continue to track my food. Actually, in some ways, it is good, since I can get in more nutrition. Follow the protein first rule and it will work to fill you up. Slider foods are dangerous, so I try to stay away from them. It sounds on track to me.

Good for you on the exercise. Are you doing any strength training? It will help with toning and preserving your lean muscle mass, which will help with your metabolism.

I started panicking when I realized I could eat more than I could i the early days and immediately thought I'd start gaining.  The good news is the restriction is still there - there is a limit to how much I can eat even if I wasn't paying attention.  The trick is now I could eat enough high calorie food multiple times during the day and gain if I stopped thinking about it.

So you're thinking about it which is perfect.  I can't remember exactly where I was capacity-wise at 3 months but what you're describing doesn't seem crazy.  You just get to start practicing how to use the sleeve as a tool in managing food instead of having the sleeve restriction do all of the work.  It was nice when it would do it all for me though, now that I think about it...!

It is indeed normal to be able to eat more as surgery is further in the past. But you will still reach a limit and some days that limit may vary. So long as you are losing weight at a good rate I wouldn't worry. You may be able to eat a few more calories than some of us and still lose.

But remember the wise advice of Frisco to eat below your sleeve's capacity. Don't eat until you are stuffed. Eat until you have eaten the proper portion, stopping if you start to feel full. Don't eat as much as you can. Eat just what you need to meet your doctor's plan for protein and calories etc.

Sounds like you are doing really well. Congrats. Diane
