Eating Salads

On a similar note to my issue with salmon as of lately.. I do miss a good spinach salad. Since my surgery, a leafy green salad will make me sick - seems too hard to digest no matter how much I chew it up. Crunchy veggies seem to be OK for my tummy.

Does anyone else experience this?

I'm so sorry you're having all these troubles with foods! I'm thinking maybe a consult with a gastroenterologist might be in order. Have you ever had an upper GI? I had one post surgery, and it was very helpful in diagnosing some of my acid issues. It could possibly help to see what's going on.

I have no problems with either salmon or salads/lettuce/spinach and haven't since maybe 4 months out.

Wish I had something more positive!

I can relate.  I can eat lettuce/veggies on a sandwich with no problem but in a salad, it sits heavy for hours.  I chew well but there is just something about a salad that does not work for me.  I know that when eating out and served a salad to just take about 2 bites and that is it, otherwise I will not be able to eat anything else and will feel lousy for a couple of hours.  But that is okay with me, I get my veggies other ways.  So far, this is one of the few things that has bother me since my surgery.  I can live with it!  Love my sleeve.

Blessings....Dee

Thanks Dee - I guess it's just nice knowing that I'm no alone with certain foods. I'm actually OK with it, just found it odd and wondered if others also experience it. I'm grateful for my sleeve and have no problem with small changes I've had to make with it.

I am ok with eating crunchy veggies (peppers, tomatoes, celery, broccoli, etc.) - so I focus on getting my veggies in those forms instead. :)

no, I didn't eat much fruit or veggies the first year because they just took up too much room but I have always been able to tolerate them and now I enjoy them all the time.

it's a pity you can't eat a salad!!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I love spinach salad, but I found it sits heavier in my sleeve over say the Spring Mix salad. I'm not sure of the "why" or the mechanics behind it, but spinach salad just isn't as "crunchy" as those funky lettuces in the spring mix. I can eat a small spinach salad, but spring mix salad I can eat double the amounts.

I can eat quite a bit of salad, both spinach and spring mix together, but cannot eat salad dressing any longer. Love salad.
It seems that all of us have experienced changes in our eating since the sleeve.
I love my sleeve, and mostly just appreciate the changes.

Wishing you all the best, Carol
