X-post from VSGmain: searching for a new protein powder...

I don't know how many vets still drink shakes, but I'll ask anyways:

I'll preface this with acknowledging that everyone's tastes are different, but mine seemed to have changed in the last 9 months. I was a faithful About Time protein lover, and lately, ugh. I don't know if they've reformulated or if it's me...but I've tried 2 different flavors that I've recently ordered and bleck.

So, I'm searching for new protein powder (not RTD). I still drink a daily protein shake for breakfast cuz it's easy and I don't like to think about food first thing in the AM. and if you have a brand or flavor that tastes great in coffee, I'm all ears! I tend to prefer vanilla and chocolate (or derivations of...)

Thanks!

My WLS support group did a taste test day where we tried something like 20 different kinds of protein powders. The only one I found tolerable was Unjury Chocolate Splendor. It was the only one that didn't have that horrid whey taste to it. I'm sure people will have lots of other suggestions for you LOL.

On a side note, you can order a bunch of single serving sample packs from vitalady.com for pretty cheap and try them for yourself. I was going to do that but didn't when I found my WLS group was going to do taste test day.

Good call on the Vitalady samples! I totally forgot that she did that. It makes life a lot easier to track these samples down!

I already ordered some Unjury samples this AM. I'm not wild about the stats, but at this point, I'll try it.

Good luck and post which you like the best! The chocolate splendor was the only Unjury variety I liked, the vanilla one was absolutely vile LOL.

I really like the Champion double protein stack - chocolate flavor - and have a scoop and a half in my coffee most mornings.

For vanilla I like Isoflex - their chocolate is also ok, but I usually add a spoonful of cocoa powder to it. The Isoflex chocolate peanut butter is delish - I blend with almond milk and a shot of sf raspberry syrup fpr a pbj sort of shake.

I like the Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Natural Vanilla from Vitamin Shoppe. I have it in my coffee and also make pancakes and protein ice cream. It is sweetened with stevia. Even my bird likes it! You could add cocoa powder to make it chocolate or it does come in chocolate.

I've heard good things about the Jay Robb Whey Protein and will be buying some from my neighborhood Vitamin Shoppe.  I believe they have samples, but I also know if you buy protein from them and don't like it, you can return it.

i still think costco premier premixed tastes best. their powdered isn't bad either. but with any choc powdered drink i add a half tsp of unsweetened coco powder to cover up the icky sweet and make it more adult and dark. and with any vanilla one i add a blob of greek yogurt and dash of cinnamon to cut sweet taste. works pretty well.  I still drink a protein drink once in a while too. usually hot choc which i make from costco powder - just don't overheat liquid so it doesnt curdle. and smoothie king gladiator is a good brand if you live where you can get it. blends well with a little fruit.  Diane

Here are some that I like.  I usually do a double scoop every morning even 2 1/2 years out.  I think that's what helps me maintain my weight so easily.

Max Protein (what eggface uses) available at some GNC's...it's a franchise thing so call around.
All of the flavors are very, very good.

Dymatize Elite Gourmet Vanilla and Smooth Banana...Vitamin Shoppe

Optimum Nutrition Birthday Cake...gotta get on line

Myofusion Vanilla, Banana and Chocolate...Vitamin Shoppe and on line for some flavors

Jay Robb Pina Colada and Orange Dreamsicle...Vitamin shoppe

Hope you find something you like!!

Thanks!

I've been thinking about the Max Protein. Unfortunately, there are no stores here that carry it so I'm leary to try it without sampling esp. since it's so expensive, but I may just take that risk.
