Compliments & Weight Loss
Tell me if any of you went through this....
It's been 8 weeks since my sleeve. And I get compliments all the time on how great I am looking, people call me "skinny", stuff like that. I just shrug it off, tell them thank you and leave it at that. I guess I'm not sure how to take them. When I look in the mirror I don't see the "huge" change that everyone is telling me they are seeing so deep down I think they are just being kind, but I tend to not believe them.
Others I know who have had weight loss surgery tell me to stop being so modest...if people are telling me that, they are genuine. Being fat all of my life, I never received many compliments, and now that I am, I'm not sure how to take them.
Anyone else struggle through this?
Thanks!
Michelle

I think people are truly noticing a difference and are genuinely trying to be supportive and complementary. Accept these complements at face value and say 'thanks, I am pleased with my weight loss so far'. Up to you how much you want to discuss it, but people are trying to be nice.
As far as seeing a difference, I just saw my brother who is 5 weeks out and I hadn't seen him in a year and I see a major difference. He did lose some pre op weight and about 30 post op now but its a huge change to me and he looks so much healthier overall even though he has a ways to go.
So enjoy every complement and allow people to share the joy of your journey. Diane

As the others have said, enjoy the compliments and just say "Thank you." With time, it will get easier. Sometimes, I would feel embarrassed, but I knew the compliments were genuine and people meant them. It does take time for the head to catch up. Others really do see the changes, before we do. I still feel a bit embarassed, when people call me "skinny" or "tiny."
Try to enjoy the compliments, take them at face value, and remember, people wouldn't be complimenting you, if they didn't see the changes. I used to have people do a double take, when they saw me, after not seeing me for awhile. The changes that happen with weight loss are remarkable, both inside and out.
Enjoy the ride. You are worth it.

I hit my original goal then revised lower. I get told all the time how great I look and I just tell them "Thanks!" and move on. I have the same issue of not really seeing myself the way others do. I still think of myself as heavy and I'm also afraid of re-gain so I'm battling that little devil too. I bought some books and I'm going to make a concerted effort to work through this. Like head hunger, I think these are things we have to make peace with so we can accept ourselves. Once we do that, we'll be more comfortable in our skin. Good luck!
Ditto what the others said. I still get lots of compliments but with time it's starting to dwindle as people get used to the new me, so enjoy it while you can.
Time will fly and you'll see how quickly you'll get to goal. One day you'll pass by a window and say to yourself "Who's that fine skinny *****" And it will be YOU, lol!
