Vitamins
Hello All,
This is my first time posting (thank you to Jen for getting me here!) Anyway, I have a question that I'm sure every one has asked.
What are the vitamins we are supposed to be taking daily? I'm only 8 weeks out and I keep asking, not sure if I'm taking the correct vitamins & amount.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
Michelle

Thanks Heather.
I need to double check with my doctor again. Right now I'm taking a children's chewable vitamin, Calcium, iron & b-12 suppliment. But where I question is am I taking the right amounts. I'm bruising like crazy so it makes me wonder if I'm not. Before surgery I never bruised like this.
BTW - I see you are from Bremerton...my husbands family lives in Port Orchard! :-)

Every program is different, but chewable children's vitamins don't have enough vitamins and minerals that an adult needs.
As far as the bruising, I would check with your doctor, since there are many reasons for bruising. Are you taking vitamin C?
Calcium should be the citrate form. My program recommends 1500 mg/day. I use a combination of chewables from Bariatric Advantage and a liquid Calcium that I get at Whole Foods.
Vitamin D recommendation is at least 4,000 IU/day, from your multivitamin and calcium and Vitamin D supplement. This vitamin supplementation is controversial, but more and more health professionals are recommending it.
Iron is on MD's recommendation.
Multi-vit is twice/day; centrum type. I use the Kirkland Brand.
B vitamins are also the Kirkland brand.
B-12 varies from daily to 2-3 times/week, depending upon the strength of the tablet that you take.
Every program seems a bit different.
Look on the ASMBS website, for what they recommend for each surgery type. The program that I went through seems to be following those guidelines.
