Fruit Carbs

I wait for fruit season every year. I love fresh fruit - peaches, nectarines, sweet cherries. Love all of it. So, I've been indulging in fresh fruit. I'm so close to goal and have been losing so well, I decided to go for it.

Interesting that my weight loss has stopped. I'm not at all worried about it because I'm enjoying the benefits I receive from fresh fruit. But I'm guessing the weight has stopped because of the fruit, am I right?

I've been pretty much a "white food" Nazi since surgery and have all but cut out carbs and sugar. Sadly, it looks like the carbs in fruit had turned against me.

Oh, well, it's a trade-off I'm willing to make. It's a good lesson for me, tho. In my case I'll have to watch all carbs. That's just fine. It's good to know.

I eat more fruit than most but fruit is a tricky one. It has benefits -- antioxidents and fiber -- but it also has negatives -- fructose which the body doesn't deal well with.

People will tell you that the sugar in fruit is "okay" because it's "natural" but this is a misunderstanding of chemistry. If you put the fructose molecule in your body, your body doesn't know where it came from. Fructose is fructose.

This is why I try not to go crazy with the fruit but add in more vegetables as those are less of a treat than fruit. It's really got nothing to do with my weight either as it's where I want it to be. But just trying not to trigger that bad insulin response.

I eat fruit all the time.  Always have.  Right now, it's strawberries and watermelon.  Maybe your body is just in shock and is readjusting to the different food.

If you are counting your calories and not eating too many, then you are probably ok.  Unless you are insulin resistant.  Your body may react differently than mine.

I haven't met a fruit that I didn't like (love)!  There's seedless watermelon in the fridge until October.  Today I bought Parker County peaches which are so sweet and juicy.  Those rare figs are around, too.  I figure it's better than the Snickers bars that used to haunt me!  Breakfast is Greek yogurt with some banana, blueberries, strawberries or peaches.  Shakes are way at the bottom of my list for now.  Loving me some Fage 0% with Truvia or get this, Sugar Free Honey from Walmart.  Not a typo! Made with malitol but it very thick and decadent but not calorie free.

so what is your total daily calorie count and has the fruit eating increased your calories? Somehow I think fresh fruit carbs are not the same issue as white flour/sugar carbs but i think people vary. So I would check the calorie count as if it hasn't changed and you are getting your protein in, you should still be losing. my doctor says to up the protein if your weight loss slows. i am wondering if by eating the fruit you have inadvertantly decreased protein and increased calories. Your food journal can give you the answer.

I like fruit too and even though my dietician says choose vegetables over fruit, i often eat a meal of a protein item like chicken with a side of grapes instead of a green vegetable which is what I am supposed to eat. I do this in maintenance and did it during weight loss and it worked ok. . I bet in a few days you are losing again. Diane

It can surprising how many calories are in fruit. You figure most servings of veggies have around 25 calories but a serving of fruit is normally 60-100. It can add up fast!

I am very glad that I eat all the fruit I want - love it, love it.

are you still losing? I am at goal and so not trying to.

I hope you find a solution: maybe you can do OK by eating small amounts of some fruit, or waiting til you are at goal if you aren't, or combining fruit with other food. when there isn't much room in your stomach it's hard, but I think it's useful to eat, say, peanut butter with your apple and it slows down how you digest the sugar.  I love berries on my oatmeal. oh, more carbs.

well, whatever works!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I am glad you asked that question...I am in the same spot as you.  A few lbs from goal and I am thinking it is the fruit too. I have been having more fruit lately..just thought about that this am.  I am going to try and decrease and see what happens.

I have about a 1/4 cup of berries in my Greek yogurt in the AM and sometimes a small amount later in the day, but I am careful with it. The calories and carbs really do add up quickly. Cherries are in right now, I am eating a few/day, but not an entire cup. I love fruit, but it can easily be too much of a good thing. I didn't add fruit back in, until I was almost at goal. Then, it was only a 1/4 cup of berries with my yogurt.

I LOVE summer fruit.  It is such a treat after a long winter of nothing but apples and bananas!  I frequently buy a pound of strawberries and eat them by myself over just a few days (my hubby and daughter are not fruit lovers).  I feel that since it is a seasonal treat, and it does offer some health benefits, that it is well worth any slow down in weight loss!  But, this is just my opinion.  Plus, I can easily use fruit to satisfy my sweet tooth and I figure it is definitely better than ice cream!
