Wow..so I have to have a hysterectomy!

Yikes...that was unexpected. Apparently my uterus is prolapsed and is really exacerbating my back problems.

I'm not unhappy about it...if it means getting rid of this 24/7 back pain I'm all for it. It's not like I need the thing anymore anyway...I'm 40 years old and don't plan to have anymore children. My son is 22 and my daughter is 16.

My husband on the other hand is quite upset about this...he was hoping I'd change my mind and want to have another child. Uh....NO! I'm too old to start all over with babies.

I also think maybe afterwards if I can get these back issues under control I will be able to be more physically active and will help me lose the rest of the weight I want to lose.

I guess the reason I'm asking is I'm wondering if any of you have had hysterectomies and if so...was the whole thing similar to your sleeve surgery as far as time of recovery? I  figure..for that they went in laparascopically and pulled most of my stomach out...and for this they'll go in laparascopically and pull my uterus out.
Pretty similar right??

Best wishes to you on the surgery.  I've not had a hysterectomy.  I've had a B/L salpingo-oopherectomy, which is the ovaries and fallopian tubes.  That was done laproscopically, much like the VSG.  However, the pain and recovery were much different.  Much worse.  It's my understanding that a prolapsed uterus is removed trans-vaginally.  Is that what the doctor is planning?  My bet would be that it will be more painful then the VSG, but I'm only guessing.  Hope all goes well.

I had a vag hyst. and the recovery was a little harder for that than for the VSG, but since it was a while ago, things have improved some since then, and it would be easier now than then.

Wishing you all the best, Carol
count your blessings!!!!   At goal weight.   I am 5 ft 3.

sorry i can't advise you as i am still "intact" but i hope it goes well. I know people who have had them for various reasons and said after a few days they felt better than they had in years due the the problems the organ was causing. all the best. Diane

wow same thing for me. But my problem is fibroid I have 6 of them I am 46 and do not want any more children. I am happy about this some days others I am scared. I bleed so much so that will be great for all that to be gone.

One ovary needs to be removed to. I was told will take 2 weeks to recover. They will be doing a D&C on me July 12Th. Than august 9Th I will have the hysterectomy. They are going to use the DA vinci on me. My doc said it will be the best and fast recovery like my sleeve. Best of luck to you.
My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

I had a total hysterectomy (vaginal approach) done 2 weeks ago.  It was the best experience I have ever had medically.  I just kept telling the nurses and doctors how fantastic I felt.  I woke up on cloud 9 and the feeling never left for days.  I think the anesthesiologist slipped me something wonderful.  I had zero pain.  I could not believe what a great experience it was--I was in overnight is all.  I restart my treadmill tomorrow and my body feels so good not to be fighting with all the problems I had before.  Oh, and since I was fighting bleeding every day for months and I think that might have been the reason for my stalls (I am 6 months post VSG), I just wanted to tell you that once my body was out of its stress mode, I came home and have lost 13 pounds in the last 12 days.  Good luck and I bet you have a good experience too.  Let us know.

I had a hysterectomy about 4 years ago.  I think it was actually a bit harder then the VSG but I also had an incision.  I had a large fibroid so they could not do it laproscopic.  The doctor said I needed a month off and that is what I took.

I had a total hysterectomy the summer before last and it was " A PIECE OF CAKE"!!!!!!!!

It was done laparoscopically and pulled out through my vagina. The incisions were sooo tiny and I had NO pain! I was walking the halls of the hospital like a rock star!!!

I kept asking the nurses and Doctor if I really had the surgery????? cause that's how great I felt!

I hope you will have the same experience as I did.  It was nothing, really.

Good Luck!

Quick question...I'm assuming you're having your OBGYN do your surgery, but did you consult your VSG surgeon?  You would have to let them know about your tiny stomach right?
