I think I may have stretched my sleeve

When I eat I eat way to fast and regular size bites, and I have been taking that 1 extra bite because it taste sooo good, and then it feels like im so full, my tummy will hurt and it will feel like im all the way full up to my throat, and then I will have like hick ups and it will come up in my throat.
Well im 7 months out and I can eat a whole taco,  or a whole piece of chick like a leg, or a whole hamberger patty is that too much????
Does anyone know if you can stretch your tummy like that???

from what i hear, probably not. whats left of your tummy is the part that is not stretchy. its normal after 6 months to be able to eat more than after two months. and more after a year. and its funny, somedays seems like sleeve will hold a lot and others it will take so little to feel stuffed. As Frisco says, always try to "undereat" your sleeve and not eat until you have that overstuffed uncomfortable feeling. by now you should be able to tell before you get to that point. What you can eat doesn't sound like too much unless there is other stuff with it. And skip the taco shell if you are still trying to lose weight. a whole chicken leg (without skin) doesn't sound like too much nor does a hamburger patty provided its 3 or 4 ounces. Diane

I agree with Diane, unless you are eating this amount of food with other items, it seems about right.  A chicken leg doesn't really have a lot of meat on it - maybe 2 ounces???

I think you are fine.  I don't really think you have stretched your sleeve.  The amounts seem about right to me.  I can eat a lot more now then I could before and that is why I tell people to maximize the time when they can't eat that much.  You are doing fine, just maybe consider going back to weighing and measuring your food to get a read on how much you are eating.

Why not do the cottage cheese test:

It's better than trying to guess based on food because food and eating meals is so variable.

Yes. Note where the cottage cheese starts. Eat cottage cheese until you want to puke or 5 min, whichever comes first. Then pour the water in what is left of the cottage cheese to measure how much you ate.

Though sometimes I just weigh the cottage cheese before and after. It's one of those things where a fluid oz is about a weight oz so that's good enough. It might be off by .5 an oz. but you are trying to see if your pouch holds way more than average. (Well, really  you are just trying to reassure yourself since it's quite unlikely you have an issue at this point.)

Hi Marie,

Did you do this test?  Have you done it at intervals?  May I ask what your results were?

I just tried it for the first time at 17 months out.  I could eat 6 ounces but I'm feeling a little squeemish now. I think I overstuffed it.  I definitely would not have eaten that amount if it wasn't a test to see how much Sleevie would hold.

It looks like the test was intended for the RNY pouch.  I wonder how it would stack up with the Sleeve?  The website said that most mature pouches hold 5.5 ounces but that bigger didn't hinder weight loss.

I have a 40f bougie that wasn't oversewn.

I did it at 7 months, 1 year and 2 years. Approximately.

Depending on how nauseous I am willing to feel, I can get in between 5.5 and 6.5.

It was designed for RnY but I think the basic principles work for us. The idea is to see how it grows over time more so than to compare our numbers to RnY pouches.

Most people find they can eat more over time but when they do the test, they can't get more in. This suggests that over time we do things to be able to eat more and we can stop doing that if we need to because it's not an issue with the capacity of the sleeve but with our eating habits.

OTOH, if your surgery gave you an enormous sleeve, then this test will let you know that and then you can pursue being resleeved or something.

Which is why I think the test is more about piece of mind...
